Default Bought a new truck w/coupons

Really! I was shopping at WM today and had my coupon binder open on the baby seat part of the cart. An elderly gentleman saw it and exclaimed "Oh No!!!! Not another one, not you too!!!" I said "Does your wife coupon too?" Then he proceeded to tell me:

They have been couponing for 20 years as of 2/14/10. Every time they used a coupon they took the amount of money saved and put it up. 50 cents here, a dollar there. They were able to save 27,000 dollars and buy a new truck!!!!

He chatted w/me for awhile and I really enjoyed meeting him.

I haven't been able to take money saved and actually put it in savings. I wish I could.....

Now THAT's willpower! I couldn't do that either. I just roll the extra forward for unexpected purchases/good stock-up sales.

    Cute story, thanks for sharing.

Coupon savings are just extras for me. Not something I already have in my wallet...because if I had the extra money...I would not be doing coupons. So no extra money for me to set aside for anything.

I'm more with ladytoysdream. I don't think of money saved with coupons as extra money, or money then to be saved. If I get a $1.50 item for 1.00, it just means to me that the price of the item was 1.00. I guess it's like looking through a window. You can either focus on a spot on the window and see that, or ignore the spot and focus on the tree outside. These are just different ways to looking at the savings.

But hooray for the folks who saved that much.

I can't put aside what I save w/q's. Saving money on groceries just keeps our head above water, allows us to eat better, stockpile (a savings of sort) and put the unspent money towards healthier fresh foods. I work on a budget and rarely go over it (unless there is an astronomical sale ) When my grocery/household envelope is empty - thats it.
