I watched the entire thing. I don't think what they were doing was wrong they were stockpiling which to me is a good thing being prepared. Just gotta make sure you swap things out before they go bad.Where in the world do people get coupons? I get a few in my weekly paper but its for crap I don't need or use.

The one couple had deodorant & toothbrushes to last 150 years!! I'm not living that long, how about you? And, they all kept it in the garage..mice? AND the lady that was coupon diving in a dumpster...she had gloves on but her son (who looked liked about 6-7 yrs old) didn't!! I think couponing to their extreme is an addiction.

i too was wondering about mice, etc. all that cereal and pasta...wouldnt it get fleas or weevuls (sp?)or moths? and what about rodents of any sort w/ the scent of food?
all that pasta the first lady had was just disgusting! just thrown on that couch..nasty....how does she know how old it is? yuck.
who could ever eat that much cereal or pasta?
i do undertand the need for a stockpile for true emergencies...but, this was way on the extreme side for me....

Hi Trishagirl, just wanted to make sure you all know that you don't "buy" your coupons as that is illegal for anyone to sell coupons that are free. You are paying for the service of their time to "clip the coupons for you". Just one of those things I thought you all should know, or probably know its all in the wording.

The fellow with all the cereal and stuff actually donated most of what he bought. Another website talks about it pretty extensively. He also didn't just go through and take everything off the shelves- he and the tv crew worked it out with the manager ahead of time, there was plenty of stock for that reason. He and his wife apparently use their couponing skills to better their community in the same way many people give money. They filmed for 14 hours, and were shown for something along the lines of 10 minutes...

I read another site saying the same things. The first lady also mentioned (on the site) that TLC cut out a lot of what really happened. They were in the store over 10 hours and she donated most of her loot.
Not sure if it's all true or not, but an interesting thing to think about and discuss.

I am with you. I buy stuff that we can use in a small period of time. I have a 3 car garage. I like parking my cars in them during the winter months. LOL!! I always thought that extreme couponing is an additction. This show makes that a sure thing. I save $30 to $50 every 2 weeks with coupons. I don't go to stores that double the coupons usually in our area the store is to expensive to start with. I am not the biggest fan of using store cards to get the sales items. I live in a state where food isn't taxed but other items are.

I have to admit that I am relieved the rest of you seem to think the behavior of these extreme couponers is bizarre.
Sometimes I feel guilty for not taking advantage of coupons, but they are rarely for things I use and I would also be afraid of mice and bugs getting to my stockpile. And with the time, energy, and organizational skills it takes to coupon and maintain a stockpile, it would make more sense to get a part-time job or start a home based business.BS1: $1000/$1000
BS2:
CC: $0/ $15884
Other Debt: $0/2487
Car Loan: $0/11800
SLs: $20368/54031
Total Consumer Debt= $20,368/81825

I really like being able to donate, especially when there's so much need right now. From what I'm told, the food pantries are close to empty much of the time here, the feeding sites are busier than ever, and people used to being able to donate now need a little help themselves. If I can use my skills to make it a little easier on another family I want to! People were great to me after a fire when I lost everything and if there's a way I can help pay back I will. I'm sure I've donated at least several thousand dollars in goods most years. To me the time and money invested in getting coupons and making purchases is a small price to pay. I don't believe in clearing shelves either, and only use what time I can without hurting my family.
