    Default cakes in coffee mugs

Has anyone tried baking cake batter in a coffee mug for frugal gifting? I saw this somewhere--can't remember now--and want to try it!

It would be cute to try cakes in Christmas mugs at Christmas time. You could buy the mugs at thrift stores.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

I have seen the 'cakes in a cup' for the microwave, not the oven. I would be worried about the enamel if baking a cup since they aren't really made for the oven.

I'm pretty sure we used to have a thread on this around here, but it was years ago...lol.

I'll look and see if I can find it, it had some good recipes for mugs and jars!

I've seen them done in the microwave, but not in the oven. I did a web search and found a recipe for the microwave kind. I also found recipes for cakes baked (in the oven) in canning jars. Totally waaaay cute. I think I will try some of these for Christmas! You can do just about any cake mix or cake from scratch (i was actually thinking about trying banana bread this way) you just have to get the jam jars that aren't tapered at the top so you can get the cake out!

Here is the recipe I found for mug cakes in the microwave:

    Lemon Glaze coffee mug cake
    Prep Time: 01 hours
    Cook Time: 02 minutes
    Ingredients:
1 (18.5 ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
    2-2/3 cups confectioners' sugar
    1/4 cup powdered lemonade mix
    Preparation:
Each coffee mug should hold 1-1/2 cups water.
Place dry cake mix and dry pudding mix into a large bowl and blend well with a whisk. This will be about 4 to 4 1/2 cups of dry mix and will make 8 coffee cup cake mixes. Divide mix into 8 small plastic bags (about 1/2 cup each). Place mix into a corner of each bag and tie it there with a twist tie.

Make glaze mix: in a medium bowl, combine confectioners sugar with powdered flavoring mix. Divide into 8 small plastic bags and close bag with a twist tie. Attach each glaze mix to the cake mix bags with a twist tie. Place one of each bag into each cup.

Attach the following instructions to each cup:

Generously spray inside of cup with cooking spray. Empty contents of cake mix packet in cup. Add 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of oil, 1 tablespoon water to dry mix. Mix 15 seconds, carefully mixing in all dry mix. Microwave on full power for 2 minutes. While cake is cooking, place ingredients from Glaze mix into a very small container and add 1 1/2 teaspoon water. Mix well. When cake is done, pour glaze over cake in cup. Enjoy while warm.

    Makes 8 servings

I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for, or if you were looking for something you could cook then give. But hopefully this helps!

We made one in the Microwave. I am pretty sure I got the recipe on here. The kids thought it was neat and enjoyed the cake.

    MomTo2Boyz,
Thank you! That sound exactly like what I was looking for. I was actually going to bake the cakes before I give them as gifts! Thank you so much for taking the time to look that up! I'm sure everyone appreciates it!

One more reason I LOVE this forum...the generous people!
