Default I heard about this shooting on Dave Ramseys' talk show

Dave talked quite a bit about this shooting yesterday. I didn't realize it was politically motivated until I read the article. Its a real shame that our nation has become so politically divided....

We need more honest citizens with concealed weapons. It realy bothers me that a teacher is unable to legaly take wepon for self defense to school.

Tbqh, I doubt I'd send my kid to a school where the teachers are packing heat.

Do you think this guy just snapped as a result of the political climate? He's obviously a couple sandwiches short of a picnic. If the Dems and Reps had called a truce, found a middle ground and joined hands and sang Kumbayah, he'd probably be killing people over the menu selection at Taco Bell. Just my opinion.

The thought of my kids' teachers having a weapon is a bit unsettling, but I also think ~ would Columbine or Virginia Tech have been such a massacre if somone on campus had had a weapon and could've stopped them?

I'm not for teachers just grabbing a gun because they want it. But if there was a volunteer program for teachers and they would be trained by law enforcement on how to use the weapon properly in these situations.....I think the knowledge of teachers with weapons alone would be a deterant (sp?) for a lot of these shootings.

Granted, teachers with weapons has nothing to do with the story I posted ~ and Nishu, you are right. He probably would've found something to go shootin' about even if we were weren't so polarized.....anytime I hear about a shooting, though it makes me sad.

It is sad. And though I don't really think he needed politics to do something like this, I wouldn't be surprised if it made things worse, you know? Conservatives already are viewed as being violent.

What is a real shame is this guy took the UU church as the same as any 'real Christian church.' Any Christian knows that he 'targeted' the wrong one..The UU brings in so many 'faiths.'

Just saying...IF he was really trying to make a political statement..

    Religion always divides, ya know...

Angrypuppy has a point - in states where concealed carry permits are easy to obtain, crime tends to be significantly lower. When criminals believe that a potential victim might be armed and able to resist, the deterrent effect is significant.

The myth that guns lead to violence is also just that - a myth. In the UK, where handgun ownership is completely outlawed, the murder rate in the UK *IS* indeed lower - but the violent crime rate overall is significantly higher in the UK than the US.

Guns don't cause violence. People cause violence. Guns or any other weapon in the wrong hands are a bad thing. Weapons, handled properly, in the hands of properly trained, law abiding citizens are not, and can be good.

I don't object to a teacher having access to a gun - particularly in a post columbine world - provided that teacher has demonstrated the ability to handle a gun properly and further provided that the gun is secure from improper access.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

The murder rate is significantly lower in the UK, however, I wouldn't say that violent crime overall is significantly lower, not based on these statistics.

Thank you - you are right - significantly lower on violent crime is the wrong word.

But the UK still has more violent crime per capita than the US. You're just more likely to live.

I'm a teacher and I would NEVER work in a school where teachers were allowed to be armed. Not because I believe the teachers would shoot anyone, but because I believe that all those children with their hormones and drama and not always rational thinking would somehow get the gun and shoot someone.

I can't even fathom the suggestion of guns+kids=anything good.

You think bullying is an issue now??? Imagine the threat of, "I know where the teacher keeps the gun, and I'm not afraid to use it on you."

Owen also said the letter expressed Adkisson's frustrations at not being able to find employment. Authorities also discovered a letter from the state government telling Adkisson he was having his food stamps reduced or eliminated, police said.
If it weren't for those awful liberals, he wouldn't have had food stamps in the first place!

Jessica, before LEGALLY being able to carry a concealed weapon, there is a training program you have to go thru which is an all inclusive weapon training, when you can use it, the rules and ramifications of having it etc.

As for me, I take my revolver everywhere I legally can.
