Have you read "The Total Money Makeover"
Curiosity on my part - see the poll.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Well, this was one of the harder polls, Greebo. I'm somewhere between on board and doing my own deal. But I do believe his principles are sound, and the perameters he gives - like how much savings, etc -- are some that I would also naturally gravitate to, so in the end I gave him a full thumbs up. He's not for everyone, but I believe that if you follow him you won't go wrong and will end up in a much better place than where you started.

I suppose I could have voted "doing my own deal" but since our deal is only a very slightly adjusted Ramsey plan (BEF of 2k and we throw more there with each pay even while we're snowballing), I counted us as "on board".
Especially since we decided to sell some of ceashel's stock in order to pay off her car. That's VERY Dave to me.

i deviated slightly. i kept one basic credit card for travel. i did them all out of order as well-- the divorce messed me all up.
bs 1 1000 bucks done
bs 2 debt free
bs 3 6 months of savings will be 16,000. i have roughly 6500 now
bs 4 15% retirement done
bs 5 n/a
bs 6 mortgage paid
bs 7 trying and tithing11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

I voted "on board". We took the FPU class. We've modified it a little bit. However, we were/are debt free besides our house. We still use our CCs (as stated in another thread) but only for major purchases - like lumber for our deck or other things that we have money set aside for.

that's exactly us. I voted "doing my own deal" cause while we use his principles....we don;t do exactly his way. It the DR plan, with our own personal tweak that works for us.
