    Default DR budgeting...

Well I listened to the 2nd CD of "Financial Peace University" by myself and discovered right away where DH and I have been messing up our budgeting. We're working off of averages in Quicken, rather than real life situations. That, plus going the extra distance to create a priority listing for savings will help us a lot. I think DH thinks we can keep it all in our heads...but we haven't been able to. I think it's time to get better control of things here. I can hardly wait to get him to the second CD.

Murphy struck again yesterday. DH's bicycle, which he uses to get to and from work, broke down. He's not sure if it's fixable or not. He took DD#2's bike to work today. He looks a little funny on a bike too small for him, but at least it's something. I'm relieved to know we have enough money in the EF to buy him a bike if need be.

Lesson for your DH: If it isn't written down, IT NEVER HAPPENED. You can't keep this stuff in your heads, no matter how nerdy you are. I'm an uber nerd, and I write it down (well, put it in excel). Otherwise, it never happened.

Good luck on the bike repairs!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

We made a list this spring of things we wanted to get done around the house, most requiring money to do them. then we prioritized them based on need. It really helped us to stay focused this summer.

I should own stock in paper mills the way I am always writing numbers and budgets etc.

    It helps so much.

You know, I've been trying to decide whether I'm a nerd or a free spirit. I hate to say it, but I think I started our marriage free spirit and became nerd once I found frugality. DH started nerd and I think he's now switched to free spirit! Do you think maybe there's something about being opposites no matter what? To give some kind of balance to the relationship...albeit a bit warped at the moment...
