Talking Budget a la Dave Ramsey!

DH and I listened to the second FPU CD on cash flow planning together last night...after I had listened to it twice before on my own...just to make sure I didn't get caught in any surprises.

I don't have the exact book that goes with the FPU course...possibly a different edition. Anyway, between the TMM Workbook and the FP Planner I was able to find and mark all the forms DR discusses with post-it notes. But, to my delight, DH didn't need them. DH is a whiz when it comes to number things. He took some accounting training back in his salad days, but decided to do something else for a living.

He listened intently and claimed it made a lot of sense, and that he'd like to go to an event just to see DR in action. WHOA! Now that's an about face! I asked him if he thought it was worthwhile redoing our budget, a la Dave Ramsey. He said he thought it might be. So we've set aside Saturday to work on the forms presented on the second CD. I can hardly wait!

    Rock'n'Roll, Peanut! Rock'n'Roll!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

    Sweet!

How much we enjoy what we have is more important than how much we have. Life is full of people who have more than they know what to do with, but cannot be content. It is the capacity to enjoy life that brings contentment.---Unknown

Well we did the first budget today. Boy, do we look good on paper! Still, it's not so good when you add up the cost of all the things we want to save for. There are a lot of things we should have been saving for for years, but haven't...like home repair and car replacement. I guess that's where my inheritance will come in...to pay for the stuff we were too disorganized to set aside money for...sigh...

We have a similar situation - in putting our money on a clear purpose (ie: a budget), we have also come up with lots of categories where we know we'll have costs sooner or later, and are saving for them. If we didn't save up for the home repair, the car maint, the vet costs, and so forth, we could put SO MUCH more on our snowball - I mean like nearly double it... But then what would we do when those things do happen, but tap the EF and possibly go into debt to cover them?

    Stay strong!

You have done a great job so far and now with you both on this new budget plan the possibilities are endless.
