Newbie just ordered Dave's FPU on CD
Newbie here and I just ordered Dave's FPU should be getting it tomorrow. I can't wait to hear his ideas and put them into use. I have lost 1/2 my income and that was making ends meet. My husband and I have made a decision that we NEVER want to be in this position again, so we took a leap of faith and spent the money on it. Oddly enough, it wasn't all that hard to scrimp enough money to buy it. Any how I look forward to getting to know everyone on our journey of financial freedom.

When I bought the Total Money Makeover I had $20 in the bank.
Now I am a year from paying off my credit card and 14 months from paying off my car.
Sometimes you have to spend your last buck to get your life on track.
Welcome to the boards and just so you know, if you are willing to put in the work and the time with no excuses or falling off the wagon, the dave Ramsey plan WILL work for you.Last edited by Cricketlegs; 09-07-2008 at 04:37 PM.

Hi! I'm a relative newbie too. I just received my copy of the FPU CDs last week. DH and I have been listening to them and drafted up our first DR budget yesterday. I'm excited. It really shows you where your money is and where it's going. I've been listening ahead on the CDs too. Interesting stuff. I think we'll learn a lot from his material. DH sure is stubborn about some things though.
It'll be nice to have someone along on the ride to compare notes! Enjoy the CDs!

Welcome aboard!
Great to have you on the plan!
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
Greebo(Nerd Spender): Loving and extremely patiently tolerated husband of ceashels.
WARNING: Y Chromosome behind the keyboard. Adjust your listening filters appropriately!
ThreeTwo mortgages, twooneno car loans, oneno credit cards, and a partridge in pear tree!

Ok so we have listen to the first two lessons on FPU an I have read 8 chapters of the book FPU revisited. My car broke down yesterday, so unfortunately we can not contribute much to our EF, but on the good side we already have $211 in the EF. W are going to do a budget for the rest our money this month and then start a new one for next.

You'll be amazed once you start putting your money under the lash (aka, a budget) how much more you seem to have at the end of the month.

Don't be surprised when the numbers change in the budget month to month when you first start out.
Getting it all on paper is the first step, then life has a way of ironing out all the wrinkles and you see where you can save from one area or what is just a drain in another.
Tweaking it is all part of getting it where it needs to be for the long haul.
be sure and come back to the village all the time. It really does help you over the bumps and also to get the cheerleaders when it all comes together. The math never lies, budget in INK!

Good luck with the program, the most important thing is that you do it together and sounds like DH is on board with you so that is great news.

I figured out the return on our RRSPs and was extremely discouraged. We'd have done better to keep our money in GICs and CDs the last 18 years. I am majorly upset here. I think I'll talk to DH and we'll stop funding the RRSPs.
