Yah, so I manipulated him to see it MY way
Hubby runs a machine shop, part time, out of our garage, on top of his day job. He was eying a $2 saw this weekend on craigslist, despite the fact he HAS one. But this one does x,y,z more and faster, and it's $1k+ off the new price...I wanted to say NO WAY, but tried instead to gently voice the silliness of this idea, since he a) doesn't NEED it and b) we don't have the cash for it and c) we're buying a $900 'super duper' garage door to help conserve heat in the garage shop this month. But I feared being too pushy and bossy would 'force' him into it in some way or another, so I backed down...but I did,an hour or 2 later, happen to play our recorded episode of the DR show while I made dinner and he was bumping around. It was the 1 year anniversary/debt free special. 10 minutes into it, hubby decided he 'didn't want' the saw right now...now, did I do that on purpose or what?!? Thanks Dave, and thanks DVR for holding that recorded episode until it was desperately needed!

I hate the word manipulated, but glad to hear that you two were able to talk about it. At your gentle proding of what you are working together towards as goals was able to stem the tide of another purchase.

I wouldn't use the term "manipulation" I prefer "the voice of reason." You spoke to your DH through the voice of DR and being debt free was the incentive he needed to focus on.
