Is this following DR's plan??
My dh and I are HUGE Dave Ramsey fans. We went through FPU a couple of years ago. We have been to 2 of his Live Events. At one, we volunteered and it was so much fun! Dh got the chance to meet Dave and shake his hand - - while I was in the restroom!! LOL
I would love to know what Dave would think of our plan. What do you guys think?
My dh had LOTS of CC debt during his single days. (We've been married 2 1/2 years.) Dh went to CCCS to consolidate his debts shortly after our wedding, but before we knew that was a bad thing to do. It has taken us this long, but we'll have his CC debt gone by February.
We still have 2 vehicles that we have payments on, and our mortgage.
We plan on stopping the debt snowball for a while and save up for adoption fees. We do have our baby emergency fund.
Would Dave think that was stupid? What do you think?

No, he wouldn't say that is stupid at all. He always says don't let debt stand in the way of getting married or having children, etc. It is good that you have your EF in place. How exciting ~ wishing you all the best!
P.S. Went to Dave's live event here last April and hear he's coming back again this April and I'm thinking about volunteering too! They are so fun!

I don't know. I'd pay off the vehicles first, and then plan the family. But that's just me.

Dave has repeatedly said that he would not allow a debt situation to stand in the way of having a family.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Hmm...okay...guess I disagree with him. But then, I've never been seriously in debt before...so maybe that's why. We always figured an ounce of prevention was worth a pound of cure. No BTDT experience here. Go with Dave then. He's BTDT.

Well, dh and I have been in debt since we were married, have never had "enough money," etc. We just started DR's plan in May (and still not very good at it, but we're getting there), and Baby #4 is due in May. So I guess money never stood in our way. LOL We just trust that God will never give us anything we can't handle, and that includes our finances. Sure, we can screw up and get into debt, but there's always a way out somehow, too, and another child isn't going to "ruin" that, per se.

Gazelle - you remind me of someone from another board I go to.
I have mixed feelings on this one. First of all, do you plan to do the SAHM thing? If so, can you afford to pay for everything including the 2 car payments on your dh's salary? If you want to be a SAHM and cannot make it on just dh's salary. I'd get rid of at least one car payment first.
But that is just me....

Since adoption can be a long process and most countries set parental age limits, it makes sense to start saving as soon as you are able.

I'd personally want to ditch the car payments beforehand, but that's just me.
