    Default BS1 Question...

I have completed BS1. My doggie has torn her CCL in her leg and needs surgery. Should I use this money to pay for the surgery or finance it? I know that Dave said to only use the money for emergencies. I see this as one. What do you think?

I would definitely use the money for the surgery.

Pets are family members and this is a medical emergency. I would use it.

I would use the emergency to fund the surgery for your dog. Unless it is more then your EF is, then I'd pay all that you could then finance the rest if needed.

    This time, use the BEF.

Then add a fund category to your budget for pet expenses.

We have 3 dogs and two cats, and we allocate over $200/month to pets.

Pets are expensive - plan for them accordingly.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Bang on. This is one time you can do it. Pets are indeed family members.

Definetly use it, pets are an important part of the family unit. but i do agree with Greebo put space in the budget, we are lucky enough that we can insure our pets along with our house.

I say use your EF for this and plan ahead for pets by allocating a special amount each month to put towards their future vet bills and emergencies.

Thank you so much all. I am going to use what I have in the fund and I guess somehow i'll have to come up with the rest. And for the future I will allocate money in the budget for my girls.
