Dave Ramsey Grades -- Content:B; Delivery D-
Dave Ramsey has a large reach and market. This is because of his simplistic views and despite his condescending attitude. Bottom line, no matter what he says, he is a businessman out to make his bucks. Hopefully his radio personality is not for real because he does not speak with respect for others.
The financial advice that he gives is sound for those that have gotten themselves in over their heads, but for the average person starting out much of what he instructs is unrealistic.
That said, his delivery and rants are pompous and preachy. It is impossible to align his religious message with the name calling that he levels at certain industries and our government officials. The name calling (idiots, scumbags, buttholes to name a few) is petty and immature. Those rants harm his credibility (pun intended) both as a financial speaker and more so as a supposed faith based individual.
Maybe his religion of choice should be called "Selective Christianity".

I have to be skeptical of someone with a user name of "CreditSense" who trashes Dave Ramsey (a competitor, perhaps?) in their FIRST and ONLY post to our village. Did you ever consider introducing yourself first?

To Ms. Cheap,
Not even close to being competitor to Dave Ramsey. I will take that as a compliment because the man does know his financial stuff.
I work in Financial Services for one of the "Scum sucking" companies. It's so ironic because my company really believes that customers should use credit in a responsible manner. And yet, Mr. Ramsey decides to insult large groups of people in various industries and the government. Maybe some deserve to be called out, but the adolescent name calling reflects on him as a person.

People in this part of the forum happen to LIKE Dave Ramsey's plan and even his style. You appear to have come in here for the sole purpose of peeing in our Wheaties. SHAME on you. Go away.

As an average person starting out, I find what Dave offers to be very realistic. I am living almost completely debt free, and a need for credit cards does not exist in my life. I seem to be one of the few who are relatively unaffected thus far by the recession.
I also agree with kestrel - you're not very friendly. Perhaps a bit of background and general friendliness would assist your message in being heard in this community.

Remember, friends -- Don't feed the trolls!!
“When you get to the end of all the light you know
and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things will happen:
you will be given something solid to stand on,
or you will be taught how to fly.” - Edward Teller
“Our Earth is degenerate in these later days;
there are signs that the world is speedily
coming to an end;
bribery and corruption are common; children no
longer obey their parents;
every man wants to write a book and the
end of the world is evidently approaching.”
— From a translation of an inscription on
an Assyrian clay tablet, circa 2800 B.C.E.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Bolded for emphasis. You aren't a competitor, but you work for the very institutions that DR doesn't believe in. Credit gets people and our country in trouble. Just look at it now, we're here because the country did too much on credit.
DR believes that you should use credit, end of story. So yes, while you aren't a competitor, per se, you work for one.It is what it is.

um, so you come into a Dave Ramsey support forum and start trashing him? How mature it that?
Take your trolling someplace else.
DR's plan works, and yes he can be "tough" but people need tough.
I followed his plan right out of more than $30K consumer debt in a matter of 2 years. No one is forcing you to listen to his show, so let it be.
Bye, bye

Quite honestly, Ramsey is a threat to these scumbags because they count on people to be in debt and therefore "slaves" being debt free means you are beholding to know one. You will make your fortune and life your own.

To repeat, I respect Mr. Ramsey's work and his right to his opinion about the financial industries. However, it is impossible to reconcile his name calling with his supposed faith. He walks right up to the line of FCC guidelines with his language and you will not hear those words in Church on Sunday or any day of your choosing.
There are millions that work in the industries he calls out and the name calling is over the top and highly disrespectful to an entire group that includes many well meaning people.
Credit does not get people in trouble unless THEY allow it to. It is a tool to be used responsibly just like anything else and should never be used to buy something that you CANNOT afford (especially if it is a depreciating asset).
But everyone should know that, right?

From Wikipedia:
"An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."
Do not feed the trolls, kind people, you are wasting your energy. Let's talk about something that will enhance our lives...in another thread.

If you continue in Wikipedia:
"Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used to discredit an opposing position, or its proponent, by argument fallacy ad hominem."
"An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin: "argument to the man", "argument against the man") consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the source making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim. The process of proving or disproving the claim is thereby subverted, and the argumentum ad hominem works to change the subject."
So tell me, kind people, what does the name calling by Mr. Ramsey or anyone accomplish? I came here to be educated.
