Fpu
How many of you attended FPU and was it worth it?
There is finally a class in my area, however it is an hour away and on Fri nights - my husband will never be able to go on a Fri. (he is a chef)
The class moderator says I can always just go by myself, and do the homework together, but doesn't that defeat the purpose?
If I have read the book, do you think I really *need* to take the class? I want to take the class out of curiosity, will hopefully learn something new, and maybe connect with other people in my situation.
And, that's a LOT of extra driving when I am super careful about my gas usage. Decisions...

We did, and yes.
Not at all - but if the moderator will allow you to borrow the DVD's for hubby to watch at home, one at a time, it won't hurt. There is finally a class in my area, however it is an hour away and on Fri nights - my husband will never be able to go on a Fri. (he is a chef)

If you cannot afford it, you can skip it. If you can afford it, do you need to? No. Will it help you? Yes!!!If I have read the book, do you think I really *need* to take the class? The $120 class will make up for itself in what it teaches you many hundreds of times over, if you apply the lessons therein. And, that's a LOT of extra driving when I am super careful about my gas usage. Decisions...If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I am in week 11 of 13. No, taking it by yourself wouldn't defeat the purpose. I needed to be w/ people to share w/ them and vise versa. DH has attends when he can and needs the videos of DR. We have become debt free during the course, started saving 3-6 mo. maxxed out our BEF,cashed in a whole life policy, started paying back the money I borrowed from DS's college fund, and DH has stopped acting quite so immature about the budget. He has ADD and details can be overwhelming but he is looking at the budget. Maybe something about 1 guy to another?? Too bad a class isn't closer. Our class was discounted at $86.

The FPU kit also comes with CDs of the classes so you and hubby can listen to the lessons together and go through the work book.
Dave is fun to watch though and much more energizing and motivating than just listening to the CDs.The Free Spirit Saver who walks the path with Greebo.

Thanks everyone for the information.
I'm thinking that I should either wait for a class DH can attend or do the online class.
The more i think about it, I really want him to attend the classes w/ me. I handle all of our finances and I think if he hears some of these things elsewhere, maybe it would help with his resistance, and maybe even get him a little excited! I'm not sure that bringing dvds home would be enough.
But, if it would simply make him think twice before leaving for work with windows open and the central AC on, I would be happy!
Has anyone taken the online course? How does it work?

Thats what happened to us. DH has seen me budget for years but it meant liitle to him. Hearing it from an outside source made all the diff. Plus the visuals are great.
We can work together like 2 adults. In the past I feel he was tantruming and I was resentful. He would make financial messes thru impulses and I would find ways to clean them up (mom and child relationship). Now i feel I can include him in situations w/o getting a big head ache. He used to say but I make good money, why don't we have any. I would make a list of expenditures, budgets and he would look at it and it meant nothing. I had to learn that he didn't understand how money worked. So something I grew up w/ (saving, delayed gradification, and that money was fluid) were concepts he hadn't been taught. Many people are like this in this generation and it has nothing to do w/ smart.
Also, depression makes you think short term and not care about much. An allowance may be what he needs and you may have to carry more for awhile ??
I dont know much about the online except that I signed up to recieve pointers during the class relating to the current lesson.

I'm so excited! I just checked DR's website again and not one but TWO classes start in my area this month! One is about 40 mins away on dh's day off, and the other in our town on a night he could request to have off! So it looks like we will be taking FPU together after all!

Excellent. He will get hooked and changes will just fall into place. We have gotten 10x the investment.

Thanks, this class will be great for us as a couple.
But, I do feel bad complaining about him - he really is starting to "get it" and has made some crucial decisions this past month to avoid us going further into debt. (he decided to put off an expensive degree and instead accepted a good paying job w/ health insurance, which had been biggest hole in our financial plan).

We just attended our new FPU class. I paid $100 CASH for my kit and felt like a kid at Christmas opening the box!
This is the second time we've attended class one so it was a little boring watching the video twice, but it was interesting to see the differences in the way the class was presented. I definitely like this one better!
So excited!
And I should be paying off another 2k debt this month! I had to go after a school debt b/c they were threatening to take me to collection and charge me another $1000. But debt is debt and it feels good to pay it off even if it's not a cc. Plus, they have been withholding my diploma until I pay this off so it will be nice to finally see that piece of paper!

I just purchased the at home kit and we watched the first dvd last night...i would personally love to attend a class, but most of the time my husband works out of town all week, so coordinating times with us is awful...I would like to know, since i have the kit, do I have lifetime (or any) access to the website goodies he has? it says in the workbook to use the code from your coordianator, but I don't have one of those!!!! lol....

So this was the repeat of lesson one - super saving?
You're in for an excellent 13 weeks.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
