I think the confusion over what to pay babysitting is based on the fact that everyone is looking at what their church does. My church would almost never pay the "girls" who volunteer. Maybe if it was a nightly thing for a few weeks and they couldn't get enough volunteers.
Other churches will pay a core staff so they can have some people there for sure. I suppose some churches might offer the course to spouses for free if the other volunteers.
I am guessing that basing 'volunteers' pay on donations is a recipe for disaster. Can anyone imagine the frustration and potential for favoritism.
I only suggested not paying/donationg the same as a babysitter because you aren't getting one on one for your child the same as you would get from a babysitter.

Oh, I wouldn't either, because of exactly what you stated.

But if thats where the EF *IS*, then that's where the money has to come from to cover the emergency.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
