    Default credit card payoffs

Is it just my imagination or do credit card companies come up with ways not to accept your last payment? There have been "issues" with my last two payoffs - this last one was Capital One, and my payment was returned "unable to locate bank" and they somehow can not process another payment for me. I have been on the phone with morons for two days now trying to figure out what's going on. I'm so frustrated!!!!!!!

If it were me? I'd call my bank (or better yet, if you can, go in) and ask THEM to call Cap. One's customer service and explain why they wouldn't honor the check.

Cap. One, no matter how much they may not want to honor your payoff will probably want to keep your bank happy. If the check was good, then there's no reason they shouldn't honor it, and saying they are "unable to locate" the bank is a potential problem for your bank, if it isn't just B.S. (which I think it is, like you.)

    IHTH!

You can't prove that a money order was received or cashed, Russ.

You can send it certified mail, return receipt requested. You can at least prove the envie got there, but not the contents, alas.

I paid it through their website with my routing/ checking number, like i always do, however I did set up a new bank. But, I am 100% certain I entered the correct information.

I have a very limited supply of paper checks that I save for rent and church donations - and pay all of my bills online.

however would it be wise to pay off credit cards through bill pay at my own bank - so then I know the money is sent to them, and I'll have a record of it?

I just never thought it would be so difficult to pay cards off!

    Oh darn.

NEVER give CC's access to your bank info. You should always do billpay to CC's FROM your bank TO them, not FROM the CC's TO your bank.

That's up to you to control. Get bill from CC, go to bank, enter payment amount and date, and send.

I've never had a bank not SEND something on time. I've had CC's *claim* not to receive them, however.

I've worked for two different banks and use on-line bill pay at my bank. I've never had an issue with a bill payment I schedule not being sent on time.

With online bill pay, you are telling your bank when to send your money where you want. By scheduling payment via their site, you are allowing them to stick their hands into your account.

If your bank jacks things up, typically they are quick to fix the situation. Credit card companies not so much. I could tell you stories about credit card companies making errors that would make your hair stand on end. Then they take 3-4 weeks to fix the situation.

    Thanks for you input!

I am probably just overreacting! But it's frustrating to have this money still sitting in my bank, and will probably be charged more interest from Capital One!

File a complaint with the FTC and BBB. Then find a list of executives at the company and send them the information of what happened.
