holy crap!
that is awesome. we have a small amount of debt but have gone through about 150 thousand in 3 years with not much to show for it. and as scary as it is if I hadn't inherited it, it would all have been on credit cards. it just has brought to light my horrible money management skills. thank you for sharing this. I am working on budgeting and living on what we make because we spent a lot of money before we made it too. i think the same goes for debt or for windfalls. you can get in the same mess.

I am finding that the more progress we make, the more frustrated I am with how long this is going to take us.
We have paid off about 30k so far and have a current goal of paying off the car and a private student loan by the end of the summer. That would be a HUGE victory for us.
Yet, realizing that it would still take us an additional YEAR+ to pay off the rest of the SLs is so frustrating. I just want it gone!
Thanks for the inspiration!BS1: $1000/$1000

Congratulations, what a great inspiration! Thank you for inspiring me to get our last pesky debts DONE. Bring on 11/11/11!

Thanks for posting your 1 year update, it was very inspirational and impressive!
One thing I am glad the DW and I did was to pay off all of our car loans and credit cards before she took a year leave of absence from work. Life is much easier when you don't have so much lingering debt that seems to attract ole Murphy.
I can't wait till you're debt free this 11/11/11!
Also, I totally agree with you regarding the higher EF. I find 3k makes me feel much more at ease. And definitely at least 2k before I start to get nervous.BS1: Done! 9/18/2009
BS2: $71k left on Student Loans. AES and Citibank are sleeping in the 2nd bedroom and we're trying to kick them out!
BS3: $6,700/$10,000 (Started early due to special circumstances.)

Wow, I am also impressed. We have been working the DR plan since March of this year.
I can so relate to the "sick to my stomach when writing out our actual debt". In fact, I wouldn't even do the quickie budget for the first two months (we did reign in our spending the moment we started the class), but I was SCARED to write it all down for a few months.
Congratulations!! Hopefully you will be debt free soon!!!

Just so awesome and inspiring!! Thank you for posting this. Congratulations and good luck working toward 11/11/11.
We started 1/1/11 and, unfortunately, ol' Murphy struck us pretty hard in February (my cancer) and now again on September 1 (dog cancer). We went into emergency mode before we barely had a chance to start snowballing
I agree, $1000 just isn't enough EF. We've gone further into debt over the past six months with hospital and medical bills and then Sept. 1 brought on a $650 vet bill - $3000 EF would've helped more to combat accumulating more debt.
But in any case, these forums certainly helped me figure out how to keep the belt tightened and apply a tourniquette to stop the bleeding -- at least kept it to a slow drip. It's not been an easy year, that's for sure, but stories like yours are DEFINITELY the type that keep me inspired to STAY THE COURSE!
Once again, you should be very proud! I am excited for you!!!3/26 Afghan #3: 58 done of 191 rows
