Default I've fallen in love with a (tiny) house... please help!

So DH and I have been delivering phonebooks for extra cash when we saw an adorable tiny house for sale...

I looked it up and it turns out it is an incredible deal for the area, nicely renovated, and on a double lot (so can sell part of the land or build a bigger house later), and it is in a very nice town with a great school system which is rare for this area. 2 bedrooms two baths and about 1100 sf. Did I mention adorable??

I have fallen in love.. I can't stop thinking about it and how I would only need 5% down with FHA loan. NOOOOOOOO!

Please tell me I'm nuts and to focus on my snowball! Thanks!

Thanks, actually it just LOOKS tiny from the front. One bay window and a door take up the entire length of the front and it looks like it is a one story. But, it actually has 3 levels in the back.

I currently live in a 600 s.f. cottage so this would be huge in comparison.

Confession: I did call the realtor to find out more info, and she says the house needs a lot of work (despite the pretty pictures) and a renter is moving in today.

It makes me think this house will be around for a while should we be debt free next year and in a better place to buy.

    Sigh. I'm over it. Really.

Thank you. Our goal is to pay off the car and one private student loan by the end of the summer. Need to stay focused!

Delivering phone books is giving me some serious house envy!
Although I have seen data that the residents in my town have a much higher than average debt. Those nice yards don't come cheaply!

Per your signature: Total Consumer Debt= $60,067

there's your down payment, sister, now get back to work. Me thinks your brain wanted a distraction and the excitement of a new house, moving (not that you want to pack) is a very good distraction but you are not ready yet.

Feel free to tell me the same if I'm not debt free.

    Hugs!

**oh! and I want pictures of this fabulous house! Surely there's a linky somewhere?**

Focus, focus, focus! Good thing the house was rented so you can clear it from your mind.

Of course you know what Dave would say, that until you're debt free the house wouldn't be a blessing but a curse.

Hang in there, you're doing great on your snowball & keep the momentum going!

I sympathize! Buying a house would be stupid right now (for me) but I fall in love sometimes too. WTG for sticking to the plan. Buying a house will feel like so much more of an accomplishment when you do it at the righ time.

Me either Deb!! My first house was 900 sq ft and this one is only 100-200 square feet larger than that "tiny" house. LOL Have you looked at the inside yet? Reason I ask is because ALOT of houses look great on paper or on the outside and the inside is horrible. I feel like if its meant to be the inside will be great; BUT only buy it if it will fit into your budget!!!!

Did not look at what you owe until after this post. I don't think it would be a good idea!!! More incentive to get rid of that DEBT!!!!!

ha ha but those debt payments are real low and the bank says we can afford the mortgage... our credit scores are nice and high and we have money down. Doesn't that mean we can afford it? ;-)

LOL and this is really how "other" people think. Which is why I love this site.

    Thanks guys.

ughhh so I came into the office today to find out that the company owner & his wife went and checked out the house I liked (I had talked to him it in my "excitement" on Friday and he asked to see it online). So now they are interested in buying it!! Why does this annoy me so much?? It reminds me of a childhood "friend" who would go after the jobs I wanted in high school. I would go to an interview, she would find out about it, and call to get an interview. ;-) The house has been on the market for ages... and there are so many others out there!

Not to mention that he said the price already dropped another another 10k.

But still, that property could have sat on the market for another year if I hadn't said anything. Next time, I'll remember to keep these things to myself!!
