    Cool Financial Peace U.. Why?

A local church is advertising FPU to start mid-September and I am considering taking it. I doubt the wife will go, so take that out of the equation.

Based on your experience, and what you have gained from taking it, WHY should I take it?

Am I going to learn anything more than what I "think" I know?

Give me some real world reviews, please.

Yes, I think you will. Every single lesson, IMO, conveys information worth far more than the $100 or so it costs to take the class.

And in your case, Russ, lesson 2 - Relating with Money, will be worth it for special reasons.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

And you meet people who are traveling the same road. I know the group at our church raves about the built in accountability.

It can be as much about the teaching as it is the learning. You have a lot to offer others on the same path, whether they are beginning the journey or smack dab in the middle of it.

You will learn new things, you will share new things and you will travel on your journey with fresh enthusiasm.

I'm torn on this one -

While I do think that you'll find you can dig into each lesson in more detail, and even if you've read all the material on your own, you can still pull from the energy of the group -

My hubby and I aren't "people" people, if you know what I mean, so the whole "group" of strangers - as cool as it was to hear them join in and share like a big 'ol group couseling session.... we didn't participate in that aspect of it.

If you (and/or Mrs. Russ) are very social and outgoing - I would say YES!!! Esp if you're having a hard time with Mrs. Russ being interested - If she's social, this may be the perfect way!

I wasn't very comfortable - but that was just the social aspect of it -

I think in hind sight, we would have been happier to buy the home set and watch them all at home.

I'm considering taking it and dh will go with me. The problem is he probably won't be there half the time. Works on salary and I never know as a manager if he will be stuck at work longer. 90 hour weeks are sometimes normal.

Since I've been on my kick he has stopped playing the lotto. That's a miracle people! I've only sounded like a dripping faucet part of the time. In 8 years I've never seen him not spend money on that crap. He is even happy with his blow money.

    (bold emphasis added by me)

Taking you at your word, in my limited opinion, there's little reason to go. The number one biggest thing I got out of FPU was that my wife and I went together and we started discussing our finances and started working more together as a team. This is about 75% of the value of FPU for me. Another 20% was leveraging the fact that I had spent real money and made a real sacrifice made me feel more motivated to start doing the things I already knew were good ideas. The remaining 5% was that I did learn a couple new things, but these were mostly of trivial interest.

If only you could convince your wife to go ... could you offer her more sex or less sex or any sort of bribe at all?
