Does anyone else get annoyed with Dave Ramsey?
We have followed the DR plan for years now and have always loved it and him. Lately though, I have been listening to his radio show a lot. I work from home and listen live and to the archives for several hours a day. I am getting so annoyed by him!
First of all, it seems that half of the time he is actually talking, he is pushing something on us. BAsically he is advertising all of his products.
Second, he has been not very nice to a lot of people lately. No idea if this is new, or not. I know he was always a little like this, but now it is all the time. He calls people names, says rude things to them, etc. His whole attitude is basically that he is "god" and everyone must do it his way. Last week a caller called him on it, after being told to "kick the scumbag to the curb" (re a renter problem) the caller said, that isn't very Christ like is it? and DR slammed in then as well. I was shocked!
I am the only one that is picking up on this or am I just noticing it now because I am listening to him more often?Jennifer

I like his financial ideas, but DR is beyond annoying to me. His head has gotten so big it's going to explode one day. He will begin to turn people off and away in due time except for the hardcore fans.

To be honest, I'm so turned off by his attitude I've never even read his books. I poked around his website a few years ago, and that was enough to totally turn me off.

I have only listened to him a few times. I do have his books, which I had before I listened to him online.
As far as What he teaches I like the concept of it, but when you start treating people like they are a lower life form because they are not at the same financial level as you that is just wrong.
That would certainly not be Christ like if indeed he was talking that way to the caller. And as for the renter I would guess the person would want to have the money to pay rent. Some people in this day and age are really having a hard time finding employement and it does not mean they are losers. I do understand that the landlord needs the money though too. it is so funny that you say that - because I have thought the exact same thing. He has gotten really mean. I remember when I first started listening to him, maybe 5 years ago, he was way more sympathetic and now it is like he has no patience/tolerance for a lot of the callers that may be just discovering his program (ie. in the beginning stages of his program or in a bad place). It has really turned me off from his as well. He's kind of a jerk now.

I'm not sure why he's thinking he's above everybody because he has been down on his luck a few times himself. You think he'd understand more!

Far be it for me to take up for DR. He certainly does not need my shield or protection, but I do listen to his podcast every day. I think he escalates his commentary to actually strike an emotional chord with SOME folks and really get them to THINK about their situation, living beyond their means, acting like they DESERVE the things they bought on credit and can't afford, or enabling others to live a lifestyle they can't sustain. It sometimes TAKES that to kickstart someone into action. I've also seen him be really compassionate to widows, true victims, and the elderly. I know he gets mixed reviews based on his religion alone, so that gets him a lot of bad press (which I'm sure doesn't concern him in the least). However, if he bothers you, simply do not listen. I still think his message is inspiring and, although I do wince once in a while when he tends to to overboard a bit, I'll still keep listening in. I learn something almost every day.

He's always rubbed me the wrong way so I stopped listening to him a while ago. I'm sorry something that used to be inspiring is no longer there for you.

Dave Ramsey attitude
MISSY:
I totally agree with you about Suze Orman. Lately, she has gotten on my LAST nerve with her snarky, irritable tone when she talks to people who call in. As for Dave Ramsey, I've not listened to his radio show in quite a while, but his website has definitely become more "commercial." If you want more information than he offers in his little "teaser" bits, you have sign up for something with a fee attached to it. Have they forgotten from whence they came ????

I would think that maybe he has gotten calloused to the hard times of others because he hears over and over again about other's financial troubles. He has probably become of the mind.."I get it, why don't you". It doesn't make it right, but I can sort of understand the way he must feel sometimes. But he better watch it..that kind of attitude won't sell his program or his books!

Oowl -- I agree with you to some extent. But he can be too harsh too frequently. and the constant commercials from him about his products have pushed me to not listen. It is mostly the ad stuff, but a smaller extent is the harshness. Which some people do need.
Beejay - you are right, everything on their website costs money. I would love to join their forums, but will not pay $90 to do so and can't believe other people do! That is a lot of money for people struggling to get out of debt. It seems like he is just taking advantage of people.
Hmm, will have to check out Clark Howard as I do like to listen to something while working.Jennifer

I haven't listened to Dave since his tv show went off the air though I have tried listening to him online and find I couldn't stand to due to the commercials pushing things. I also looked at his new program (of course I can't remember the name right now) and found it way too religious for me. But he has given me a good foundation to get out of debt and get my financial life in order from my followings a few years ago. So, I'm a fan of his info, for sure, but not a fan of how he's currently conveying it.
I am a Suze Orman show, yes, she's annoying sometimes, but she also gives good info for those looking for further financial education. i do get pretty darn irritated though, when she 'denies' kids basically to teach them a lesson, even when they have the cash and would have some savings left besides!
