New car has been purchased (the accident cost us $3800 which includes new car, taxes, registration, car fax report, $100 tow, $150 cash for the crashed car). not too bad considering. We paid 4k cash for our last cheap car and this one is two years newer.

Also, I decided to put comp and collision on the new car b/c we paid substantially less than the book value and it will only cost an extra $200/ yr.

Planning to fix the computer tomorrow on my own (wish me luck!).

We are about $1500 away from paying off our 08 car.

I hate setbacks! But, again, having cash in the bank sure did help my stress level these last few weeks!

Actually, scratch that: we have $796 left to pay on the car at the end of the month (forgot to add in a paycheck!)

Any ideas on how I can come up with an extra $800 in one week??

The computer repair is not going well. Since I have a computer on loan, I think I may just wait to deal with it until next month. I am just wasting time that I could be spending on "finding" $800!

Speaking of finding money: a woman I know just found a 10k lotto ticket discarded on the floor. She is the most deserving person to ever have such good luck! So happy for her!!

I missed this earlier - did you not have comprehensive insurance?
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Gmarie. Go to the Avast! website. In the forums section, they can walk you through how to rid your computer of your virus. I had a virus happen to me several years ago. They walked me through, step by step on how to remove the virus. It takes several postings and may take several hours, but it can work.
Good luck and I hope things get better for you.

We only had comp & collision on the newer car, not the beater. I did put it on the vehicle we just bought. We paid 3k and the kelly book value is over 6k. The comp & collision on the new car will cost us about $300/ yr.

In retrospect, I guess it is always better to have comp & collision on any car worth more than your deductible, not just if you are required to because of a lien. The value on his old car was probably around 2k, and our deductible is $1000 and we owned the car for about 3 years.

I was planning to just wipe out my hard drive and start over since it's faster (when you know what you are doing!) and I use an online backup (carbonite), however the computer guy told me the virus could be on the backup. So I don't know what to do. I will check out that website to see if it could help me.
