Ugghhh so the brakes failed on DH's beater today and he rear ended another car. He and the other driver are okay, but our car is totaled! The other driver had minimal damage. There is no collision on that car. it just passed inspection so not sure why the brakes would fail (or if DH was really just going too fast or not paying attention).
The good news is that we can buy another car with cash immediately thanks to our DR program and a large bank balance. (have not made my snowball payment yet for last month) That is a relief and it really does take most of the stress out of the situation.
But, we were about to pay off our other car, so I am so very sad to part with that money.
Also, with DH rear ending another driver and therefore being at fault, I worry about our insurance rates, and also with the driver "developing" injuries and suing.
Stressful.
But again, it sure is nice to have several thousand dollars to buy another beater.
I wish we could just share a car, but we really can't with our schedules.BS1: $1000/$1000

So sorry for the accident, glad to know that your DH & the other person are ok. Hope your auto insurance will cover the damage on the other car & the other driver's 'injuries'.

My new boss keeps telling me that my insurance company will probably drop us. We have Progressive. Any truth to that? Should I just call them and ask? I hate when people assume worst case scenario, it's like he's trying to scare me or something. Not helpful.

I dont think there is reason to worry. We have had home and auto claims and never been dropped. Premiums went up a bit but no dropping. I did hear of someone who's son had 3 accidents in a year and they got dropped. Three is a far cry from one. If they dropped everyone who had an accident there would be a lot of uninsured folks.

Thanks. I spent the 10 minutes I had between jobs today to call and ask.. he said no they would never drop us, just increase the premium (and since our policy renews in the next month, we probably wont' see an increase for another 6 months since the case will still be pending.
But I did increase our insurance going forward. Our liability was way too low, not sure how I ever thought that was a good idea.BS1: $1000/$1000

He did say that some homeowners companies drop you if you file a claim, mostly in the south. but not auto insurance.

Progressive hasn't dropped us yet but I'm waiting.
My son, who was driving my car, was in an accident August of 2010. He rear ended/bumped into another car - no damage to our car or theirs and supposedly nobody was hurt. Progressive called August 23 of this year and said the other driver has hired an attorney and is suing because they were hurt in the accident. We haven't heard anything from the other driver and the insurance company says they are handling it.

haha DH crashes the car, I just keep crashing the computer!
A few months ago, I dropped it requiring a new hard drive. :-(
Now, I have a nasty virus and my computer guy wants to charge me over $100 to fix it and another $100 for a virus protection b/c he says AVG Free no longer works. This is despite the fact that AVG Free was installed by professionals on every business computer I currently use. I don't know who to believe anymore!
I used to be able to reinstall my operating system w/ XP, but have no clue with Windows 7, plus my new laptop (a cheapo toshiba) didn't come with any of the disks.
So frustrating! So do not have time or money for this!BS1: $1000/$1000

We use Avast! anti-virus, free. And it's always worked perfectly for us. You do not need to buy an anti-virus program! That said, be careful with what emails you open and what sites you visit. There are certain sites
that are most notorious for spreading viruses. But there are others, especially those "cutsie" video websites (not YouTube & the like, but the ones that *are* a video as the website), that will spread them, as well.
I wish I could help you with more, but my techie dh is unavailable for input at the moment. :-/Sara

Thanks! I have a laptop on loan for a few days (thank goodness!) and plan to reinstall the operating system myself, however long it may take to obtain the disks from Toshiba since they did not come with the laptop. Although highly inconvenient, this is NOT an emergency!
Given that my hard drive was replaced - does anyone know if I can use the original Toshiba disks to restore my factory settings? I don't want to wait for them to come in the mail and then find out I can't use them!
Thanks!BS1: $1000/$1000

As far as I know, that would be just fine. My dh's wiped clean our hard drives before and re-installed Windows, and everything was well with the world.
Barring something else being wrong with the computer other than just the hard drive, it should be fine.
