Financial Peace University
A FPU class was just announced in my area. Is it worth the $100 class/materials fee?

Personally, having attended and facilitated, I think so.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

We just finished week 7 and for us it is totally worth it! Even though I thought I knew it all, I've learned so much and it has made it much easier for dh and I to talk with each other about budgets and money and when/where to spend! I'm seriously enjoying the classes!

I think it is definitely worth it. We watched DR, we read DR, we listened to DR, and we watched his DVD's all before helping to organize and offer it to others. We still learned from it.
Each couple in FPU offers a unique situation with different learning experiences and we learned from them, just as much.

I say yes, too. I sponsored my son and DIL and I've already saved that $100 many times over because Dave taught my son something I, here-to-now, have not been able to convey, that you don't BORROW money from your parents as an income stream. Not once since FPU has my son asked to borrow money. God bless Dave and his lessons!
Totally debt free since January 2011.

Thank you for the replies. Looks like I will be signing up, and starting the new year on the right foot! Any tips for steps I should take prior to the class?

I am also going to do the FPU. We have a preview class coming up and the actual classes start in November. I am excited and nervous at the same time but everyone I talk to raves about it so I am jumping in!

Wish they'd do one around here! At our old church before we moved, they were deciding whether to Dave Ramsey's plan or our church body's version of it. Ultimately they went with the church's plan, and of course started it after we moved. :-/ Oh-well. Maybe someday.... Then again, I'm hoping we'd be the ones LEADING the class by the time it comes!

No, fraid not
Strictly speaking, the leader of FPU is the facilitator not the instructor. Their job is to push play on the DVD player and then lead discussion after by asking questions. They're not supposed to be the expert.
If your facilitator ends up spending most of the time talking instead of encouraging others to talk, coming off like the big expert, seek another class. Nice thing about FPU - you can go anytime to any other group for the rest of your life.
