Default Well the "Stimulus" check did not...

stimulate our economy by much. We got $900. We are married and have 2 boys. One is over 18 but we claim him as a dependent as he is in college and we provide 99% of his support. The other is 16. We didnt even get the $1,200 for married. We do NOT owe any taxes etc. Dh went to the IRS website to see if he could figure out why but he got no answers. It did say if you didnt get the expected amount then a follow up letter will becoming. I cant wait to read that and see what it says

We didn't get the 1200$ for married couples either--not sure why? We certainly don't owe any taxes or anything.

And we have not received ours at all! Good thing I didn't spend it already.....

But I did see on the news that the IRS had made a mistake on some of the checks and would be fixing that mistake.

I'm sorry to hear that, Jamie. I think with your dh being in the military and having served in Iraq, you should be getting 'more' than promised, not less.

Aw man. Ours is supposed to be creditted to what we owe still on 06 (DH had a great freelance year and we didn't hold back enough and ended up owing.) I won't be surprised if they screw it up somehow.

The $1200 per couple is dependent on how much you paid in. The more you paid in, the more of the $1200 you get back.

If your dh was deployed and not having taxable income then you probably paid in less than $1200 in federal taxes so you got back less than $1200 (this is for the married couple, not the children).

We haven't gotten ours either. Knowing our luck we were one of the 1,500 that was sent to someone else! LOL

What she said is correct. You will not get the credit for the eldest boy as he is over 17, though you can keep claiming him - but for stimulus purposes they are not paying that out. I called the IRS about something unrelated yesterday and while I had the person on the phone I asked her about the stimulus amounts. If you paid at least $1,200 in federal taxes in 2007 - you will get the $1,200 per couple back for your stimulus check. If your husband was deployed enough not to pay that amount in taxes then you won't get it for the stimulus check. They are waving the fact that a lot of deployed service members did not even pay taxes in 2007 and are still giving them $300 per adult ($600 if filing jointly) and $300 per child. I am sorry it's not the full amount you had hoped for.

I got the right amout $300 for each of us. Hope you figure out why you did not get full amount and that it makes sense.

Sorry you didn't get what you had expected, but I gotta say $900 is $900 more than you had the day before you got the check!

They're not just doing that for deployed servicemembers... just about anyone who didn't pay that much in taxes are still getting the $300. That's why part of the reason I see it as a handout more than anything.

Truthfully though, if you're not getting the full amount because your SO was deployed then it's because you've already gotten a huge tax break. It is (sort of) a tax rebate, not a Christmas present.
