We bought a manufactured home today!!!
Well, we put a deposit on it. It won't be delivered until early Aug.
Its a 1983, but its in really good condition. We are able to pay cash for it and we'll move it onto our property and either:
A. Live in it for five years while we get completely debt free and go from there (either build on property or find new property (pay cash) and build there)
-OR-
B. Live in it for a year or so while we get debt free except the property and then start building our log home.
Its gonna be tight - but that's ok (its a good thing I like my family!
)
DH and I are going to sit down tonight after the boys go to bed and list out all of our debt, all of our upcoming expenses (associated with getting the home on the property) and start out plan & snowball. I'm so excited to finally get things rolling!!!!
Now if only our house would sell....
(as you can tell from the pictures, we're buing this home from a couple that did the same thing we're doing - lived in it while building a new home)....

That looks really nice! We did the same thing, I bought a 1977 mobile home and lived in it while we saved up the money we needed to build our house, and it really paid off for us in the end. I think that is a great plan!

Way to go! Keep us informed on the journey, and it will be quite a ride. Isn't it exciting to take these steps to dreams?

Congrats,
I did the same thing before we moved here.
Worse part was all the expense getting codes to allow an older
home placed on my lot. I managed to find one that was just
the last year ( model that would be allowed in the township )
My Brother lives there now.
I worked out in the end

I can't believe that's an '83 model. It looks like it's in really good shape. Good for you for living like no one else so that later you can live like no one else!

It does look like its in great shape.
Is that the house they are building in the back ground? IF so it looks like they have a long way before they can move into it.
We will be doing what you are doing one day.
We plan to stay in this house until dh gets out of school about 3 more yrs. Then depending on what job offers he gets we will sell and buy a cheap mobile home and a lot of land. We will live debt free for a while and then build.
