Since I posted my last post about stressing out I have a few things that turned out for the best.
First of all, my insurance company (I had house insurance of about $520 due this month). Well they said if we combine it with the same place we have our auto insurance we would our house insurance for $60 cheaper than the place we have it as well as a 15% on our auto insurance (which had went up because of me travelling to work), the only catch is we have to add the house insurance amount to the auto amount and pay monthly. We also pay auto monthly , but had previously paid our home insurance in one lump sum. So our monthly bill will go up, but we end up saving over all and I don't have to worry about that $500 right now.
Second of all, my friend recommended the roofer that did her house. They said they were very pleased with him and his work. So we gave him a call and he left an estimate for us of $2,612.00 (our 2other quotes were $5000.00). The only difference is the cheaper roofer shingles are for 30 year instead of 40 years (as for the material). The rest of the price difference would have to be the labor cost. But because we heard of him through friends who had used him within the last couple years I'm ok with it. That is about the quote we had anticipated so we are no longer stuck with a $5000.00 roof .. which is good because ...
our patio door is falling apart & needs to be replaced asap, but definately before winter. There is now a "lovely" gap between the frame and the glass ugh!!! But my husband works at a lumber place and gets a discount on our door and has contacts with contractors so the total cost of that is about $1,000. We had a quote done by a window company and it works out to $500 cheaper if we do it through my husbands work.
So the roof is now saved for (I'm aiming to save $400 extra for the roof because I know we need some new plywood underneath etc) and that way we will be prepared for unexpected things that may pop up while he is doing it. The $1500 we will be receiving from income tax will be $1000 for the EF and the other $500 will be towards the patio door. So we just have to save the other $500 for the patio door.
So as it stands now we only have to save $700 now for both the roof and patio door as opposed to $2,500+. It's such a relief!!! $700 is still a lot for us as we don't have a huge income, but I know we can do it (or at least most of it).
I'm so excited now ... we still have my friends wedding wedding to save for (dh and I are both in the wedding party), but I'll worry about that once this is paid for
That's very good news. I'm so glad to hear that it's turning out better than expected.
