I think we sold my car!
Doing the happy dance! This past December, we traded in our Honda Element (I hated driving it) and got a CR-V instead, which I really did like. However, having recently paid off all of our outstanding credit card debt, I was really starting to resent having a car payment. After talking with DH about it, we decided to try and sell it. We tried Ebay once, had a for sale sign in it and although we had interest, no buyers. Just the other day I decided to relist it on Ebay and we got a buyer! They are sending payment directly to Honda (whom we have it financed through) and once that clears we will be free of that payment (we had over 4 years to go on that sucker!)
We are borrowing money from my MIL to buy a used car because the money we have saved right now is for our furnace--but we'll be able to pay her off quickly and then, officially be debt free except the house!

That's fantastic! My next door neighbor (the one I can't stand) has a CR-V that's pretty nice. I'm glad you got rid of your car.

Congratulations! You're a stronger woman than me ! lol I got a CR-V last year too.. oh gosh darn it I love it. I had always wanted a honda for like 20 something years, and I drove my other car till it was ancient so we had planned on getting it and then selling the timber on our land this year to pay it off. Unfortunately the timber business is suffering due to fuel prices, so that route may be out.
However I love it enough i am willing to work for it and pay it off,... unless my job goes south at which time, I would have to rethink that choice.
But good for you! It was so nice not having a car note for so long, Im still getting used to it. I take really great care of my vehicles though, so I'm hoping to get 15 at LEAST out of this one too. ( By the way, my old car still runs, I kept it just in case lol ) I still use it and may pass it to a family relative once mine is paid for if I can get it paid up a little early like I want.
Enjoy not having to send in that payment every month :-)Change Jar - 239.00 ~ March 18 , 2006

Jellybeanz, I did like our CR-V too. It's a cute car and has plenty of room. It's the price tag I couldn't take anymore.

So now I have a confession to make. Ahem.
Yes, our original intent in selling my car was so that we could buy a cheap car and not have a payment. Problem being, we'd still have to pay back my MIL, right? After much discussion and some test driving of used cars we found for sale, we decided to get the car we should have got instead of the CR-V in the first place. We are getting a Honda Fit. Unlike the used cars we were thinking of getting, we will be able to fit our two dogs in the car as well as our kids. We'll still have a car payment of course, but for a shorter term and pay less over all (by about $10k) so that is a significant savings. DH wanted a Fit back in December but I vetoed it (What can I say, I wanted a CR-V and I insisted we get a CR-V!)
Our plan is to pay it off within two years, which should be totally doable. We expect to actually keep this car, this time
