We are lucky -- DH has a good job. But even though we have cut way back on spending, my debt reduction plan has really slowed down. He travels around to job sites... gas costs him over $20 a day now.

We went to the beach last week for 1 night (used to stay a week). It was unusual to see all of the "Vacancy" signs lit up on the hotels. We stopped to eat breakfast at Cracker Barrel and were seated right away... there used to be a wait.

Many things have come together to cause this perfect storm (reliance on oil, corporate greed, the war, the Fed, etc etc etc). And although the media feeds on doom and gloom, they didn't CREATE this mess.

Do I think the sky will fall? No, not for most of us. The people I know who are going under were financially irresponsible to begin with. The rest of us will just have to learn a simpler way of life .

I agree with you two 100%!!! Being debt free we thought we would be floating in extra cash. A good chunk of it is eaten up by gas for both of our 60 mile commutes, much higher utilities, higher food, much higher ins premiums, lots higher school fees and the list goes on..

Don't know but I'm seeing stores closing and one major Departmet Store (Boscovs) in my area is filing for Bankruptcy. Sing of the times. Things are bad out there.
