RAC (rent a centers)
Anybody ever go into one of these centers and ask the prices?
Be sure to sit down when you do.
Years ago when I first got married and money was tight I went in to inquire "renting" a washing machine. By the time all payments were made it was going to cost in excess of $700.
I said to the guy I can go buy 2 for that price and walked out. Talk about being screwed.
Stay away from these places.Russ

Isane eh? It's like a license to steal. I would rather buy used if its needed right away, then save up to buy a new one (if it's new is really needed), sell / donate the old and be that much further ahead.

When I was first out on my own the apartment I rented didn't come with a washer and dryer. So I first went to rent a center not really wanting to rent to own but definitely wanting to wash my clothes at home (not in the laundromat). It was INSANE! I found a company that rented me the full size washer and dryer for $15 per month, if anything broke they replaced it at no additional charge. They were clean and it was very worth it! I would have spent over $15 a month at the laundry!

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

My dad's third marriage also brought with him some RAC furniture. It wasn't pretty by the time they were done paying but it was pretty nice furniture. I'd rather save up and then buy new, but with the way our kids are nowadays, I'd just rather get secondhand and then get something nice to cover them and buy new when they get out of the house.
