Default UGH - *shakes fist at Murphy*

well I guess it had to happen, and probably it is better to heppen now once the debt is paid off rather then a gew months ago when I still had a few thousand dollars in credit.

I sent of my very last payment to my credit card last tuesday and on Friday I had my car booked in for a service. Yep you guessed it a fair few problems, some belts gone and a few holes in the exhaust system that was making the car run very badly and time to replace the brakes.

I have completely used up my ef and also had to put gulp $150 on my credit card. which makes me very sad indeed.

Oh well, the credit card will be paid off next fortnight again and then I will work on fully funding the EF that way something like this will never happen again.

I am also this pay starting a sinking fund, have estimated what the cost for rego, insurance, maintenance etc for the car and home is every pay period and will be putting that away so that once they become due there will be money there to cover them.

I was soo tempted to ask the mechanic to wait for a few weeks thinking that then I would be able to pay cash - but the whole reason for servicing the car now as opposed to in a few weeks was that My nanna is house sitting for my mother while she is away overseas and she wasn't comfortable driving their car so I have lent her mine and I couldn't have her driving a car with dodgy brakes.

big sigh, I will get there eventually but am still angry that I didn't quite have enough EF to cover the whole ammount.

I'm sorry you've been visited by Murphy. It is good for your nanna to have a safe car to drive, though. You have a good plan in place so you can start working on building up your EF and a sinking fund so you won't have to rely on your cc again. Hang in there!

Thank goodness it was only 150. Congratulations! You can knock that out in no time and get right back on track. Now, Murphy can leave.

I'm glad it didn't cost you alot more than the EF and the $150 you had to put on the CC. That's a tough thing to have to deal with sometimes and it's a good thing to be safe, rather than sorry. You have the determination to get the charge on the CC paid off and to rebuild the EF, but what's even better is that you want to put into a sinking fund for the car. That's big kudos to you!

We can't always prevent stupid Murphy from visiting us but we can do what's best for our situation with the means that we have. I'm glad that you got it taken care of and that your nanna has a safe ride.

    There is a brite side.

You could have have had debt, no EF at all, and a dodgy broken down car and added a TON of debt.

I want a bigger EF, this past month has shown me that $1000 really isn't enough for my particular family.

I think you are on the right track with wanting more EF too.

Knock out that debt, get that EF going! Remember you have done it before and you sure can do it again!

Like the others said atleast it wasn't your whole EF and $150. You can get that paid off in no time. And good for you for providing your Nanna a safe car to drive.

Thanks every one, I am not too demoralised, I realise that it could have been heaps worse.

I had been worried that I would slip back into old ways but this little hicup had convinced me that it is imperative that I save a full 6 months of expenses and start a sinking fund for all of those random intermintant expenses as well as the yearly expenses like insurance and registration for the car.

It was just a bit pathetic that I only lasted about 4 days being completely debt free, next time I will last longer though!
