Default bill payment prob with my bank

I forgot about a bill payment I had set up. My bank tried to take the money from my account on Dec 2. Money was not there so i got hit with a $30 fee and it says payment was made. Payment was not made because it would be showing up at my account at the electric company.

I called the bank and asked them to cancel the bill payment so they don't try to take the money again and hit my account with another fee. hey won't stop it so i'll keep getting $30 fees tacked onto my account with no way to pay them

Perhaps the bank paid the bill, which is why the bank is saying payment was made. Even with direct payment it takes a little bit for money to change hands. Can't you go online to both places and see whether the payment was made or not?

I have almost all of our payments set to auto, in the back of my check register I list the date payment will be withdrawn, who payment is to and the amount that will be withdrawn. Since we are paid on the 7th and the second Wednesday of each month I subtract the auto payments first after writing in the deposits. Our deposits are made automatically too so that helps.

If you aren't in the habit of bouncing your checking account maybe you can get them to take pity on you and give you your $30 back, banks will do that for customers.

I dont see why they can't stop automatic bill payment, since your the one who set it up in the first place. Keep trying.

If they can't stop the automatic bill pay, why don't you just close the account?

The bank can not stop it because the electric company is the one who will continue to send it until they get their money.
