Confessions of a Procrastinator
So, I thought my husband was bad...but I am the worse. It is time to start paying these bills down. I have officially put my foot down, it will all begin this week. Some ways that we are going to cut back to help get these bills paid off consist of:
Turning off the cable and phone (gives us $150)
We are going to put our student loans in deferment for 1 year (gives us $145)
After June, our car will FINALLY be paid off. (gives us $250)
No eating out
Stretching out the food (waste not, want not)
Well that's the start, we have over $30000 in unsecured debt and I feel like we are just barely keeping our heads above water.
Okay, just needed to get that out....thanks for listening.Dawn

You can do this. Stick to your plan and if you hit bumps along the way just keep on going. You are off to a good start with your plan that you have made.

Thank you all....we (or should I say "I") am going to do this and stick with it. I am just so tired of all the bills that come in monthly. I just need to keep myself focused and I know I can do it.

you can do it!!!11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

Good for you!
You've taken the first step.
Continue to follow through and you will meet
your goals." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. As we value our happiness, let us not forget it. You made the first step and now it will get easier and easier. Since joining FV, I find the biggest thing you have to possess is planning and organization. I wish I would have found this site years ago...it would have made a big difference in my life.

Yes, I totally agree with everyone on this. If you have a goal, any thing is possible. Write everything down and follow it religiously. I use an excel spreadsheet to keep track of my balances and monthly payments. I visit my spreadsheet often. Doing this I was able to attain a very large repayment goal in 2008. It can be done and it requires sacrifice.
Some little things I have done to save money this year included:
cancelled land line and internet at home
got a part time job and took side jobs whenever I could
bartered for things
monitored all financial things and set goals
good luck - you can pay this off in no time at all with a plan

I was where you are right now 2 year ago.. I (we) was paying on more then 12 credit cards, a 4-wheeler payment, my dh's truck and my trailblazer plus our mobil home payment...we were not sinking but we weren't getting ahead by much either.. I remember waking up in the middle of the night panicking thinking that I have missed making a payment since I was the only one in charge of our finances and everyone of those payment's had a different due date I finally had enough and decided to start paying them off (I'm the type of person who likes to hold onto cash rather then paying of the dept..like you I (we) was over $30,000 in non-mortgage dept) even though I could of paid a good chunk of dept I also kept a certain (cushion) amount in the bank to keep myself feeling secure if something major happened we could cover it instead of adding more dept and defeating the whole purpose..As of right now we have no vehicle payment's (payed off my Trailblazer today a matter of fact) dh's truck is payed off.. 4-wheeler is paid off ..we do have credit card dept left (it was over $15,000) now it's down to $4000 left and our moble home payment which I consider mortgage dept along with another mortgage payment we finally bought a home.. so we have come along way's and have learnt alot along the way to financial freedom..You will be on your way to being dept free too as long as you set your mind to it..Remember to loosen the reighs a little and give yourself a little treat each time you make one of your goals so not to feel like you can't have any fun you need balance which was hard for me to do..((GOOD LUCK))
