Default Update to.. "I'm going down"

Ok so I took a lot of everybody's advice and have made some changes.
-My insurance is $107/month so that helps out.
-I'm looking into getting a discounted cell phone plan from Rogers, I work for them and can get a plan for like... $17.50 plus tax.
-As for what I work, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting 40 hours per week. But just in case I'll only say 35 so I can live off that. I also get paid $11/hour starting in February, but I'll stay with $10 an hour.
So 35x10x4= $1400/month before taxes. I'll check my payctub from this friday to see how much get's taken off.
-I've also been told that I can live where I am for awhile as long as i pay rent. It's only $100-200/month. So I'll just do that until I can.

    So yeah haha.

    Sounds good!

Start working on getting rid of that debt and then start saving for when you do need to move out. Setting up your own place can be a large outlay... you need to buy everything.. from cleaning supplies, to trash cans and sponges, dishes and salt & pepper. It can be expensive to get started.

If you can get rid of that debt and have some money in savings then if/ when you move you'll be in that much of a better place. Knock on wood that it never happens, but your living situation might change overnight and you have to move and move quickly. Being debt free with money in the bank can really help you make that transistion.

It's great that you are so young and are thinking about this stuff now, instead of years from now when it's all that harder to change your behaviors and habits.

It is always hard to get started and after a while with the debt reduction it gets slow with month after month of paying and paying but it will get done and one day we will all look back at what we have accomplished and say"Yeah, I DID do that!"

The worst thing any of us could do is to not do anything.

    Good luck!

That "awhile" is a little murky. Save some money so that you can move quickly if you must. Maybe have one month's exp at an apartment before making huge inroads on the debt. Look in the paper and find the cost of the cheapest place to stay and set that aside. When you are living with other people without a contract, you never know when an aging relative, out-of-work brother or an expecting niece will need your room.

It sounds like you've made a good start. Keep up the good work. As others have advised, get rid of your debt and start saving up so you won't be in the hole if the situation changes. Good luck!

:agree: definitely have some saved in case you need to move unexpectedly.

I just wanted to say how nice it is to see someone at your age who is being so responsible. How nice for you to be able to start good financial habits early in life. Hopefully you will not have the troubles many of us have encountered.
