Really dumb CC mail out
It's no wonder the banks are in trouble if this is the level of their mathematical abilities.
A couple of years ago I got the Amazon card to get the $30 sign up inducement, and found it was a Chase card. I already had a Chase card that I use for most daily expenses because it gives me 5% cash back nearly everywhere I shop. So I rarely used the Amazon card and recently called and canceled it. The person at customer service said that "since I was a good customer" they could just combine the credit limits on the one card I was using. Ok. The new combined limit appeared on the last bill I received.
Today I got a letter in the mail, proclaiming in big, brightly colored flambouyant type that they had raised my credit limit. "Why?" I think to myself. Then I read on - their new generously increased limit is $500 less than what I have now.
Whatever.

These cc companies are amazing. I agree with you, their mathematical abilities could certainly be called into question. Gheez!!

Actually, I feel a terrible heretic here at FV still using the one card so much. Several times I have resolved to abandon it and go cash. But I can't quite bring myself to do it. I pay it off monthly and there are no fees, so it costs me nothing to use it. I get ready to hand over $60 or so in the grocery store and think - but if I let Chase foot the bill for a couple of weeks, I get a 5% discount on groceries. And I use the card. But it may end. It's a card they apparently no longer even offer, and the rewards are so good, I'm expecting them to discontinue it any day. If they do, I'll join the cash brigade for sure.

I agree about cc companies...it's amazing some of the people they have working for them. Using a card & paying it off each month isn't the same thing as going into debt...the rewards sometimes make the cc worth having.
