Who prepares their own taxes?
For years we had H & R Block prepare our taxes. They always seemed to "find" more money. I would even double check at home by trying to do my taxes myself.
But this year they wanted to charge $200!!!! So I came home and used turbo tax online. I got the exact same refund as h&r found and only had to pay around $25 (for the state taxes).Truck paid off 12/07(paid in full)
Van paid off 2/09
Orthodontist(paid in full 2/09)
Furniture paid in full 7/10
cc#1 $700 Paid In Full
cc#2 $1000 Paid In Full
cc#3 $2400 paid in full
cc#4 $6337 paid in full
cc#5 $1500 paid in full
Coupon savings: Jan 2011 $200
Feb 2011 $100
Emergency Fund $1000
Vacation Fund $1500

Dh uses software he bought at the store. It was either Turbo Tax or Kiplinger's Tax Cut. It was $55, but it includes an e-file for federal and state taxes. And whichever one he has is "H&R Block" so we get the added bonus of the "we got people" in case we are audited lol.
They charge that much because when you go to places like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt, you are actually getting a loan from them based on how much they calculate your income tax refund will be.Last edited by YankeeMom; 01-29-2009 at 09:55 AM.

I always do ours online at TaxAct. I costs about $15 to file our state taxes, federal is free.

I do mine and DBF's using Turbotax. We both file single and we don't own a home or have any investments or anything yet so it's pretty easy, really cheap and we get our direct deposit usually within the week.

I've always done our taxes. I used to always just sit down with a calculator, pen, forms, and booklet and get it done and mailed off. For the past two years though I've been using the H & R Block free e-file and that's been working out great.

I have always done mine and I also do my parents and sisters on Turbo Tax Online. Unless you have some sort of crazy circumstance, I don't think that they are too difficult.

I do our taxes and have been doing them every year except for the year before I got remarried.
The great thing about Canada Revenue Agency is that if I do the numbers incorrectly, they'll correct it and find anything that I may have missed. I get our refund back in about two weeks via direct deposit with them also.Wife to DH since 10/31/2002!

I've always done ours except for 2 times when we had some complex circumstances. I'm not much of a math whiz, but I usually do a pretty good job, if I may say so!
What that said, I hate doing it......... I despise working with numbers.Spiritual:

We've used TurboTax for 2 years. No problems so far. Used Jackson Hewitt for 2006. They messed up and now we are paying the IRS $2000 for JH's mistake. They won't claim any responsibility. If I'm gonna get screwed again, it'll be my fault.

I have used Turbo Tax for about 13 years now. I *do* have some crazy stuff, and it still works great for my needs.

We use to have individual tax guy doing ours, then switched over to Turbo tax a couple years ago. It is much cheaper, and we seem to be getting back more using Turbo tax than our tax guy got us. So it is a win win situation for us.

We have good friends who are CPA's (they work for the FBI) they both told us that the basic forms the "pros" are using is identical to turbo Tax so that is what we have always done and it works great for us. The average wait time between filing and getting your return is one week so we are scheduled to get ours next Friday --- YAY for the child tax credits -- each of those kids are worth $1,000!
