Budgetting help
I have mentioned as have a few other people, about a Canadian show called Til Debt do us Part.
I've often gone to the networks website, but never bothered to see if she has her own site.
Low and behold she does. she has numerous common sense, plain english articles, a blog, interactive tools and some downloadable worksheets.
Here is the main site. I hope it can help some one, I'm working with her budget sheet right now and it helps to put a weekly amount to everything. Lovin' it! http://www.gailvazoxlade.com

Yeah I've seen her website. She has a couple of books out also. I actually prefer her over Suze Orman.

I think she's totally hilarious. Very down to earth, can tell some one they are full of cr@p is she thinks it's so. I am reserving some of her books at the library. I completely enjoy her. (And she makes very good sense).

I love Gail b/c she's so blunt. There's no way to pussyfoot around the fact that you live beyond your means. I can't seem to catch any 'new' episodes of the show when I am able to watch but have caught on to Maxed Out (W network?) and Smart Cookies (I think on W network as well) Both are great shows as well. I think I prefer those more b/c they seem more relatable b/c they're done in Canada. But then again I've never really been able to see any Dave Ramsey or Suze Orman shows either to be able to to do a full comparison.

I just found the channel here in the US, I'm going to watch it tonight at 10:30pm. I've heard of it, but I haven't actually seen it before.

I love her show!! I dont watch it anymore because I dont have the channel anymore but will check out the episodes on line.
I agree, Gail is fab!! She's so down to earth but so "get your arse in gear" that it works! It amazes me what spending habits she discovers and how a lot of people are totally in denial!
I tried the jar method once but didnt really follow it too well as there were a few times I'd forget to take the money out of the jar to go grocery shopping...oops!!!
Thanks for the link!

I have a question about Till Debt Do Us Part: The family uses the jars to budget and if they stay within budget for a month they get $5,000. How do we know if they really stayed within budget or if they borrowed from family and friends to get by for the month so they could still collect the $5,000??

They have to do more than stay on the budget.
They get 3 challenges, sometimes more. One is to get their interest rates lowered, might be earn more income. Yesterday, the couple were told that they couldn't afford thwir condo, and were asked to put it up for sale. Antoher show, dad thought mom had to get off her butt and work, so the challenge was to research what it would cost her to work, ended up, she would make $20/week! So she decided to take in kids, and then she was earning $400/week. He thought she'd make nothing, so Gail opened his eyes to alternatives. They do trust exercises for the couples, or dates and talking. Learn to do family activities free.
Gail talks to the families and friends too. Some couples owe friends money or family, and they have to come clean with their friends about their situation, and get them to not lend them money. Gail follows up, it's not blind trust.
If they cheat, or fail the challenge, they may get less money or no money.
