Exclamation FYI, cc interest rates & online statements

I was figuring out a payment plan for four of our cc's tonight and looked at our American Express statement online. The interest rate is no longer available online!

Another reason I will NOT go to online banking only...

I found the rate for Discover, so apparently, this isn't industry wide, yet.

Gee, they could charge whatever they wanted, and you'd never know! How nice...for them.

I tried to get that and couldn't! I called them and they said that the information wasn't available on the online statements. Maybe there's somewhere else to look (I USED to be able to do this...) that the idiot I was dealing with didn't know? Or, maybe I'm an idiot and I missed it? I'm willing to have it either way!

I spent a few minutes trying to find the pdf of our bill and couldn't... I'll look again. Thanks!

Wouldn't customer service tell you what your interest rate it? That's not exactly information they should hide. If nothing else, I'd call them back and try to get them to divuilge this little secret. Ask if it's so high they're too embarrassed to say it out loud!

No, they told me, eventually. But I also got this guff about how it's "sensitive" information. Well, yeah, it is.

Look folks, I worked for the government, had a security clearance at one point, how "sensitive" can an interest rate be on your OWN account?

Hmmm. I think I probably looked in the wrong spot. I also think the person I was dealing with was an idiot and that I'd been an idiot too. I'll check tomorrow a.m. and see if I can't find it then?

There was a section that offered "download billing statement" and it had a PDF icon near it. They keep like the last 6 months of statements.

You can also find that sort of info on the bank or cc website where you apply for those cards....at least, thats what I do when I forget what mine is (but its hard to forget 19.5% so this doesnt happen usually )

They can charge you whatever they want, you knowing what that rate actually is really doesn't make it any different.

Of course I realise that you might be looking for the rate to determine a plan on what card to pay off first.

There's a way to fix this problem permanently, ya know.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
