Smile Old dishwasher broke, we "had" to buy a new one

You might be wondering why there is a happy face for a dishwasher that broke and buying a new one.

The happy face is because we paid cash. (well actually we paid with the credit card but hubby came home and immediately made a payment to that card to cover then cost of the dishwasher. It posted the next day.) Can't say that is how it would have/could of happened last year.

    It feels so good!

Oh and the new dishwasher now matches the other appliances and also the cabinets.

Great! I hadn't read the posting, just the title and would have commented that nobody *has* to have a dishwasher (if it is bought on credit) but you went about it exactly right!

Congrats. Good thing buying it with Ca$h. That's the way to do it.

At my house I have decided to not use my dishwasher. Last night I filled the sink with hot soapy water and then filled a dishpan with clear hot water and hand washed all the dishes and pots and pans. Really trying to cut back on our electrical use and other than the heat (which is a MUST), the fridge (again a MUST), the washing machine (We don't use the dryer) and dishwasher there wasn't much areas left to cut back on....so, the dishwasher was the one that got cut out. We'll see how much is saved by not using it for at least a month

I'll be interested to see how much money it does save you. Post when you find out, please.

As for me after a week of doing all dishes by hand, I'm glad to have a dishwasher again. My hands are glad too as the hand washing caused them to crack and bleed.

Even though it was paid for with cash I still consider a dishwasher a want.

This new one was hard earned. Hubby and I believe in fixing something instead of buying new if at all feasible . The old dishwasher came with the house, the repairman had to come once or twice a year to fix it.(The repairman only came to town once a week some sometimes you waited a week or two for the repair.) This time however the dishwasher didn't need minor repair it needed almost all new parts, motor, circuit board etc. and it would have cost way more to repair than replace. It was officially dead.

So we bought a new Energy Star dishwasher at the local appliance shop - repair will be local too.

Shopped local, Energy Star, cash, matching I'm a happy mama.

My hands were like that too. Once I started using rubber gloves to wash my dishes, the cracking and bleeding went away. I'd sooner have resorted to buying new rubber gloves than a dishwasher, but it's nice to see you guys bought it in cash.

Rubber gloves ( no matter what they are made of) don't work well for me because of my eczema. Dermatologist told me not to wear rubber gloves.

But gloves would have been cheaper

and I love the sanitizing cycle on the dishwasher for killing germs.
