Default DH is getting a promotion!

He told me last night that his boss "hinted" to him that as soon as the more senior guy retires, DH is filling that job slot. I'm so happy for him!

This also means a possible pay raise!! DH makes $18/hr right now and the guy that's above him makes almost $28/hr. Goodness gracious! We all know, though, that 25% of that will get sucked out for taxes. However, that other 75% will be great for both debt reduction and regular bill payments. DH's company is in a pay freeze right now with the recession, so we'll have to wait and see.

I'm not totally counting on the pay raise until I see it, but the promotion is good!

Congrats! I hope everything works out for the best. It's hard not trying to get too excited before it happens, but that's wonderful news if it comes to be!!!

I guess it makes sense once you do the breakdown of how much he'll be making after the fact. I'm sorry his hours got cut, but good thing about the raise!

I am NOT trying to rain on you parade and I hope it all happens the way you hope. I can't find a way to type this hat doesn't sound negative so PLEASE don't take my typed word to be ugly.

It is great news about the promotion but remember(well at least for us when dh took over as manager years ago) when less experienced people take over the jobs of those who have been doing it a long time they don't always get the same money.

Businesses often will promote in house workers just to shave corners and save money. They do give a raise but not top salaries. I am not saying it is right but it does happen.

When they plan to pay the bigger bucks they often headhunt around the country for more experience and they have to pay out for it.

Of course I have no idea what area your dh works and it could NOT be that kind of situation at all.

I for one hope you do get the BIG BUCKS!!!!

You didn't rain on it at all, and I thank you for being honest with me about this.

We're trying not to get too excited, but it's hard not to. I've met the guy that DH will be replacing and to be completely honest, I'm not sure how the guy got to keep his job for all this time. DH has always complained about how the guy screws up hours and makes things way more complicated than necessary. In the last month alone, DH revamped their entire inventory system to where it's a lot easier to keep track of ingoing and outgoing goods. He also managed to make the waybill system a ton easier, cutting the job of another guy in the company in half.

We're giving this the 'wait and see' attitude. DH joked yesterday about quitting and his boss was like, 'Heh heh... you're kidding, right?'

    Congratulations!

My dh brought home the same news last Friday, and I'm also hoping there will be a raise along with his promotion (and that it's not more responsibility and hours without compensation).

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Nah not yet. I figure once we get closer to when DH gets his promotion (which will be when the other guy retires) then we'll know.
