The End is NEAR!
Yesterday, I sat down with all our overdue bills from the winter months and paid off all but $938.00 of our household debt. I'm planning a very big yard sale in a couple of weeks, and just want to hit that number and get the last of the household debt paid (not including mortgage).
I cannot tell you in words what a feeling it is to have money in the bank, bills paid and a plan in place. It is a comfort beyond my wildest dreams.
I know we have a LONG way to go, but the feeling I have gotten in these first couple of steps has been so humbling and so wonderful - and I owe so much of it to all of you, your advice, inspiration and wisdom.
So next goals are:
1) Building up the emergency fund (currently $2,500)
2) Saving for some home improvements/new car
3) paying off the mortgage ($321,000)
4) IRS Debt (I'm embarrassed to say this, but it's $109,000 and occured BEFORE our marriage).
I'm almost certain I must have the most dept on FV, and it's all BIG debt. Taking on the next challenges will be tough. I'm hoping the value of our home will increase in the next year or so, and we can negotiate a lower, lump sum payment to the IRS.

That's a great start. As rowdy said facing those numbers is the hardest part. Now that you know how this feels it will be easier. It's funny how paying down debt almost becomes an obsession. Keep up the good work.
