A charge from Skype showed up on my Bank of America account under my husband's debit card number last year. He did NOT have the type of Skype account that incurs charges and insisted he had never given out his card # though he had (prior to this charge) used the Skype free service (but he had not used it in month and had deleted the software from his computer).
We challenged but in the end LOST. BofA insisted it was a 'verified by Visa' charge and that we were liable. B.S. I was extremely ticked off and tempted to change banks (it was DH's idea to use BofA I've never liked them) however in the end we stayed just because it is such a huge hassle to change banks. We did however insist they change our debit card numbers.
Better luck to you on this bogus Skype charge.

We, too, use BofA. Lucky for us, PayPal is proceeding with the investigation. I, too, use Skype - but would never spend 100 Euro. Interesting enough, Skype only allows one username to be connected to a PayPal account. So we should be able to find out the username, too. It kind of sucks if I were to ever want to use one of Skype's paid features, though.
The worst part is that Skype doesn't have a number to contact them. What's up with that?

For those interested, here's an update on what's going down.
Still no word from Skype or PayPal. The $150 charge hit my Bank of America account yesterday. As well as the $30 stop payment fee. Causing me to be over-drafted $15. We get paid tomorrow and I was sure that we would be fine as we had more than enough money left. I suppose BofA had other ideas.
Anyways, two over-draft fees of $35 will hit my account tonight. So I transferred money from savings so that we have a +$200 balance.
I spoke with BofA on the phone, and they said I will have to call back tomorrow and they will wave the $70 in over-draft fees. I have never been over-draft in my entire life.
They also said that the $150 credit for the stop-payment will hit tomorrow as well. IF I HAD KNOWN THEY WEREN'T GOING TO STOP IT AND INSTEAD LET IT HIT AND REFUND ME THE NEXT DAY I WOULD HAVE SLID MONEY FROM SAVINGS INTO CHECKING.
But they told me that the amount wouldn't ever hit my account. Thanks for that, a**holes.
I am going today to a local credit union and officially opening up an account. If I hadn't put the stop payment on there, I would have had to budget in the $150 fraudulent charge until PayPal refunded AND $70 in over-draft fees. Absolutely unreal.
ETA: All day I've had about $100 in my checking account. So I'm not sure where the over-draft fees were occurred. I can't see them on my end. The lady I spoke with says that they are there, but due to the way they view my account and the way it shows online it's different.Last edited by SixxOfDiamonds; 06-30-2009 at 12:31 PM.

Almost over with. Should be done tomorrow.
I can only imagine what would have happened to a person who wasn't aware of what was going on with their bank account. Or somebody who lived paycheck to paycheck and didn't have a savings account.
I was lucky in that I had the money to slide over to see us through until tomorrow (DH has to put gas in his car.)
What a headache. I am such a grump now.

Something VERY good has come out of this, though. I stopped by one of the local credit unions and they offer a 4.98% CHECKING account! Currently I'm earning 0% on checking and .10% on savings, yes. You read that right. We had CDs earning 3% but they dropped the rates down to 1%.
Anyways, that's great that we will have a checking account now earning that much a month. Stupid Bank of America won't be getting any money from us any longer. Aye.

Whitney,
I banked at Washington Mutual and loved them. So now Chase has taken them over and I HATE them. I have been checking around for local banks and credit unions. I found one I like and will be moving all FOUR of my accounts to a credit union - personal checking, personal savings, business checking, and a trust account that I am trustee over.Mary
