Default Is the one thing that you would use your credit card for

That is if you had no savings. Be honest.

If my putor crashed I would use my credit card for a new one, asap. You know those 1 year, no intrest purchases.

    And you? If any?

for me if it is anything to do with the car ones of those 'must be fixed now or have knackered car' moments

i am tempted to put any future holidays on it to - but to only do it when i have all the money the reason being is that if you pay on a CC and the company goes bust they will only refund what you put on the CC and quite a few companys have gone down in the last year.

If I were who I was a bit over a year ago, had no savings, and was still an idiot with my money...anything computer or car related.

If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I don't know what I would use mine for. I guess anything if I was in dire straits and had no other choice.

Not hard for me at all. I would use to for anything I HAD TO HAVE and need.

I use a credit card for alot of purchases. I buy online.

I use my CC smart now. Balance paid off each month. They get NO interest from me anymore. I USE THEM for reward miles and free offers and such. In fact, I just got a $50 pre-paid VISA to spend from them. I used my card enough to get another one. I like that.

CC do have a purpose if you use them to the best advantage. I will always have a card UNTIL THEY make it impossible for me to USE them...HA HA

A few things came to mind for me. We don't carry a credit card balance but the only things I would consider carrying a balance for would be:

If our car needed repairs we couldn't afford... we have to get to work to make money and we don't live on a bus route.

Dental work (our teeth are important to us...we like to eat )

The computer is a necessity for my Dh to work so if we had to buy a new one or repair ours we might consider it. We have actually saved money for a new computer and plan on purchasing one with cash this month or after October. My Dh wants to wait until the fall when the computers will have some program on them.

Medical costs if we had to pay them with credit I would charge any amount to care for myself, my Dh, or our son.

Anything that was truely an emergency. We have to have a car to get to work and I wouldn't let my pet pass on because the vet wouldn'y run a tab. Anything medical or a home repair that made living there unsafe. Endless situations.

All credit card with balances were paid off in June and July. I do use certain cards on a regular basis and pay them in full when they come due because of the rewards I get.

Example: Discover - 5% cashback on gasoline this quarter and 5% cashback on groceries in the 4th quarter.

If I absolutely HAD TO, I would pay for any of my critters vet bills. We don't have any credit cards at the moment, but if I had to go in debt for something, then that would be it. There are limits for that though. I wouldn't spend over $30,0000 on the horse and wouldn't spend over $1,000 for the dogs, cat or snake. Actually, I probably wouldn't open a credit card for that, I'd take out a personal loan from my credit union. And then sign up for a second job, haha!

Everything else I would beg, borrow or steal. Including cars - I'd hitch a ride with a friend and pay them back by cleaning their house or doing their photography. Or even borrow a vehicle for a week in exchange for some free daycare or landscaping. It would be a very rare day that you would EVER find me using a credit card.

I use my CC's regularly for almost all purchase. Partially because I work in an environment where there is a lot of cash and do not feel comfortable carrying a lot of cash on me. But I stick to budget and pay it in full every month.

I Also have a timeshare (not our wisest financial move) at 10.9% interest.. the loan is like a mortgage. I found out this week that I can make extra payments on a credit card and there is no fee. So I'd charge right after the billing cycle ends and get a cashback bonus, and have the cash float interest fee for 45 days and then pay it in full (I was going to just pay directly out of checking, but this would get me a couple more $$ in my favor).

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"

I use my cards. On ebay.......and other purchases too. Pay it all off each month, and use a cash back card.

Nah. If my computer crashed, I'd just use the other two in the house.

I use my cards now to help buffer any purchases. I get reward miles for using my card, plus I pay the card off before the interest kicks in. For instance, I put $266 on the card and that money is sitting in savings. Savings will pay off the card as soon as I finish the kids' school shopping, which will be next weekend.

Just had my card charged for car insurance. Any on-line purchases go through there. I try to keep it very low each month and always pay it off. I like having the card, but don't like paying for playing in the past. I'd rather pay cash as I go!

Although. over the years I have received several free airline tickets that I have enjoyed using.

Like others I use my CC for ordinary expenses and pay it off.

But if it were a matter of carrying a balance, I would do it for car emergencies and essential health care. If it became a matter of survival in any way, I would use it. I dislike CC debt as much as anyone, but life happens. And that is why, even with savings, I would be reluctant to close all CC accounts (I still have two). Emergencies are unpredictable and that would give me another immediately available option in dire circumstances.
