i wouldn't be starting a business at home but if you have bunch of stuff lying around you don't use then a yard or garage sale can generate some cash .... or spend your time clipping coupons... a penny saved is a penny earned.

Selling on ebay works for some people. It is not as good as it used to be, because a lot of people do it.
You need a source of cheap products. Maybe find a niche item.
Do some research on ebay what is selling. See if you can find it locally.

Selling on craigslist. Also check the wanted items column.

Maybe you can make something at home to sell.
Any hobbies you have that you can expand on ?
Woodworking ........writing for pay....... odd one day jobs you might be able to find on craigslist. Gardening.... house sitting for people.....pet sitting at their homes......landscaping .

I used to build small wire animal cages. Did over 1000 of them. Just built when I had time for them. Got inventory up, and then would advertise. At the same time, had several other part time jobs.

    Good luck

If you are handy, you can advertise on Craig's List for simple jobs...often some stuff that is 80% strength and 20% skill.
When I was working in a huge office I often wondered if I could "cater" homemade lunches for $3 a lunch and sell by subscription. Cheaper for them than eating out.

Mow grass. That can easily bring in $30/hour or more if you're good, quick, and get lawns in the same area. We pay $25 for our house and it takes about 20 minutes and we pay $35 for the rental which takes about the same.

In fact we need a new lawn guy - wanna come to Baltimore?

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

We've done some interesting things over the years....

Delivered door or door tag hangers for different advertisers - paid to exercise!

Dumpster dived for scrap metal - drive up and down alleys - did some basic sorting of metal types and take to scrap yard, think we might have made some $4K last year from doing that (before metal prices crashed in late summer)

We often ran upon things in the alley that we took home and sold on craigslist... lots of yard sale inventory too

We've bought storage units at auction and sold the contents on craigslist/ yard sales - we've never not made a profit and have kept/ upgraded a lot of stuff too

We cleaned an office building every other weekend for about 8 months

Haul chipped wood / mulch from waste management lots (free source - we haul, we can have) to people's yards and spread it out for them - $75 for a hauled pick-up truck of mulch

We have 1-2 yard sales a year, least we ever made was $400, most $1,200.

Sold excess worms and set up bin for other vermicompsters

Lots of other stuff most likely that I am not remembering. Found opportunites on Craigslist under jobs and gigs

    Think outside the box

Craigslist.... etc jobs, general labor jobs, part time jobs also have seen them under labor gigs and domestic gigs.
Normal pay is .10 a door ... depending on how far apart the houses are and how fast you walk, it works out to about $10 an hour plus or minus.

We have done so for real estate agents and coffee shops. Can always ask the people that are delivering who they work for. Turn over is high, as it can be spotty work.

Thank you. I never saw ads in the paper and wondered. Here it's usually just lawn care or gutter or driveway companies that add them to the door, so I never gave much thought about other businesses hiring people separately to distribute them.

Hope they don't can it. I really like the show.

    Hi Tony,
I read an article about someone that advertised to drive people
    to the airport.

He said he had so many requests, he wasn't able to fill them all.

If you have a pickup or access to a trailer, you can advertise to
pick up for free, non-working appliances and things of that nature
and sell them for scrap metal. My Mom just had an old refrigerator
picked up by someone doing this. It's a win - win situation.

Good luck on whatever you decide to try!

You could deliver newspapers or flyers. Here the flyers go out 2x a week and 1 route takes about 1/2 an hour. We were making $60-$100 per route per month.

I checked out my Craig's list after this and saw a flyer job which was was for a gym. Pay... get $25 for each response and the "boot camp" class for free. I thought that it was a great idea. Sadly, it is too far north...
