wow, what an interesting thread. It has given me a lot to think about. I think there is a big difference between trying to "get rich" and "be rich"

Part of being rich is knowing what you have, what you have is yours (aka not the bank's or on come payment/cc plan.)

Getting rich includes constantly trying to find new ways to discover rich...

When you are rich you know it, you no longer go looking for it.

For me, living below my means and knowing that what I have is mine makes me feel like a tycoon.

It does not mean- material value of any kind.
I honestly don't mean to be argumentative, but to me this seems a very short term to view "rich". After all, if one doesn't consider material value, what will one do when (yes, when, NOT if) someone in the family experiences a health challenge?

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Sure...this is based on observation & experience, so it is only my opinion.

Most people that I have known who set out to get rich equate that with get rich quick. That rarely works out well, at least from the folks I have observed.

Being rich involves a certain measure of gratitude and understanding that feeling rich and appearing rich are two very different things.

The quest to appear rich tends to blur the judgment. They often seek the promise of rich instead of Rich himself, of sorts. The feeling of being rich brings (I want to say contentment, but that's not quite it) a measure of peace.

Gotcha - and thanks. I'm not talking about 'get rich quick' - I'm talking about get rich for real.

I think rich is relative I am what many people would consider Rich. However I have friends and relatives who are far wealthier than me if you are looking at just the net worth aspect of it. To me rich is being financially independent ie not having to work for a living. all needs met shelter food clothing health care etc. depending on what you can live on this can vary greatly. Some people feel rich on 1000.00 a month others on far more . It can be a state of mind.

I know...I answered both since people often mistake/intertwine them. We may know the difference but I don't know who will read this and not understand the difference. I am a Budget/Savings Missionary of sorts, lol.

btw Rich for Real either sounds like a cheesy sitcom or a one hit wonder from the 80's.
