Default Can money actually grow on trees?

They say money does not grow on trees, however rich people would argue that the concept is very possible. Do you think it's possible in theory?

The answer to your question lies in the definition of money.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

Right at this moment I'm eating an apple that I got free from a friend. We were visiting them and they showed us their apple tree. It's not very big, but it was filled with very big apples. They said they had eaten their fill last year and could not face another year of apples, apple sauce, apple cakes, etc. Could we help them by harvesting the apples and taking them home? We have about 50 lovely, big, lightly sour apples now. I love to eat them (feels rich), bake with them (feels rich), share them (feels rich) and I didn't have to pay for them. So, yes, that what makes me (feel) rich does grow on trees!

    Very good!

And what if your friends - or heck - you! - took those apples to a road side vegetable and fruit seller and sold them wholesale to the stand owner? What you would have is money that grew on trees.

I believe the idiom has to do with having a work ethic to get your money (at any socioeconomic level), HONEST earnings don't come without effort, but as others have posted, there literally IS "money" growing on trees.

    Define "effort"?

Devil's advocate here: technically money is just paper with some official looking print on it. It's no longer worth it's weight in gold, it's simply legal tender. Basically it's value is based on the worth the Federal Bank puts on it. So money actually does grow on trees, technically.

    hehe

Technically, money does not grow on trees since it's made of linen and cotton, neither of which are produced by trees.

Came to say this ^^ lol

Money might not grow on trees, but it does grow on shrubs.

Does it really make a difference though whether they took those apples and sold them or kept them to reduce their grocery bill? If their grocery bill is reduced by $25 by getting tons of free apples, the end result is going to be an extra $25 whether it came from reselling the apples or keeping them. It's still money growing on trees, even if they don't resell them.

I'm going to take your word for it, but I find it hard to believe that anyone can get sick of quality, fresh off the tree apples.

Well, what if they can't EAT $25 worth of apples before the spoil? So sell $15, keep $10 worth, and its win win.

Money from trees, and in my pocket:

    Sold at farmer's market:
*Saskatoons: saskatoon pies, jam, baked goods
*Chokecherries: chokecherry syrup, juice, fruit leather
    *Highbush cranberry: jam, juice
    Crabapple: jelly, juice
    Plum: jam

    * Some may argue that a few of these are shrubs, not trees, but since many grew in the wild and were 3-4 times taller than me, I call them 'trees'...(same difference)
    ***********************************

From trees: (no actual paper money)
    (The above-mentioned for personal use)
    Hazelnuts
Acorns, used for bread and baking products
Spruce needles for tea, spruce gum for resin
    Maple trees...maple syrup
    Willow whistles
    ***********************************

Money from trees (I have only thought about):
    Willows: furniture, craft items
Tree trunks and boughs: fireplace wood
    Tree stumps: furniture
Tree branches: planters, bird houses, wattle fences, arbors, trellis
    Christmas trees
    ***********************************

And then of course, there is the lumber industry, pulp and paper, etc.
And let's not forget "COUPONS", which are the equivalent of money.
And probably the most obvious: TREE NURSERY STOCK, which sells for a small fortune/large fortune.

    Default Follow-UP Question

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your imput. I've been having a good laugh at all your ideas on how money literally grows on trees.

Not exactly the track I was leaning towards. I was thinking more figuratively speaking.

So, Let's assume that money does grow on trees - meaning, that it is easy to earn money, have it continue to be available and ready to 'pick' whenever it's needed.

    My follow-up question is:

If the above assumption is true, what are some activities you are doing, or that you mght suggest others do, to make this a reality. What can they do to make earning money easy and keep that money coming?

Thanks in advance for all your imput.

    Cheers
