I'm the same way!~ My bills are automatically paid through my bank though so I don't have the satisfaction of mailing a check. I just check all my account balances obsessively and keep tally so that I can watch the total go down.

I feel a big sigh of relief knowing that I'm not the only one here that feels this addiction...
I can't get anything done anymore... I don't have time to shop at the mall... I don't have time to go out to eat.. all my efforts are going toward this addiction of paying the bills..
It is crippling to cook at home and have better tasting food anyway.

Story of my life. In 2007 we had 78000 worth of debt, and we climbed out under it, on top of paying for a surgery with cash, bought a house, had a foundation shift and $11000 in repairs later we are good to go.. then I hear the words "I'm pregnant!"

I have always been that way; every debt could not wait to pay it off. I've been paying bills before the internet so because of that I was not obsessed with it everyday. Because of that I have never been in any real big debt. I have always hated debt.

We need more addicts like you. Maybe we could get our government hooked on paying bills? I know that is just wishful thinking. Just think how wealthy this country would be if everyone became a bill paying addict. I'm an addict but not as hardcore as you. I don't know the exact time my husbands check hits our account.

I know you're kind making this statement in jest, but when I was in high school I thought about pursuing a career in public service...
I decided not to.. but recently I am starting to think I'm the only person who isn't completely insane over all the things going on with our government right now.
I am on the verge of pursuing a different career path than the one I do now.. and I am actually considering public service as way to go.
There are certain things which are in the public interest to pursue and the government is the only entity that can feasibly do it..and these things need to be in place. But wasteful spending and personal reponsibility must also be part of the solution.
One of the first things I would push for would be a 'personal finance' course required for high school students -- to inform of the true cost of living on credit and also the true cost of a college education and why it is a better idea to pay cash for college instead of dealing with student loans.. etc. This is a much more beneficial in the real world than say, algebra.
We have been taught as a culture that it is normal to take on debt and debt is a way of life. This mentality has bled into our government as well and is causing more problems than we are aware of.
I'll stop and get off my soapbox now.

Preston, I'm on your side. I did state "just think how wealthy this country would be if everyone became a bill paying addict?" I have family members who are public servants and I'm proud of each one of them. I commend you for considering this as a career. We need more honest, hard working men and women to represent us. Best of luck. Sorry my first comment came across the wrong way.

I am soooo determined about doing this DEBT FREE thing right! I sometimes check my online accounts thoughout the day just to verify my pending transactions and schedule electronic billpays. The more focused I get, the more progress I make. It feels awesome now that my truck is paid off (as of 8/31/00)!!!! Let's hear it for our group "the BPA'S"!!! (a.k.a. Bill Payers Anonymous).
