    Default Discover

All this talk about credit cards got me thinking. I've had a Discover card since...well...about after I was weaned.

Has anyone received bad news from Discover? This is my only major credit card and I do have a hefty balance now. *cough* but always a good interest rate and never once late. They have not notified me of any changes, and Judast Priest I hope they don't. I figured if they was they would have done it by now, I would think....

Not necessarily, they have until Feb. to get all the 'nasties done'....and probably AFTER Feb. when they find the 'loop holes' that were left in the laws.

I have Discover too. Have never paid attention to my interest as I have never carried a balance........but have rec'd no notices from them. I am worried with them, for me, that it will be the one that goes to an annual fee..(I have turned in LOTS of 'cashback' bucks)....but so far nothing! I have had mine for 20 years!

But I thought Feb. was when the new laws kick in so I would think it would be before? Are they just wanting to be the cherry that tops the cake? I've had several cash backs but I'm sure not as much as you. I just really hope they don't ax me because they have been one bank that has been nice to me(if thats possible lol)through the years. I even give thumbs up to their customer service.

However.......I've heard they don't show mercy like Chase and Bank of Hell. Hopefully I will not have to experience this. If I do I hope the board filters cuss words.

But that is why I said 'until Feb.'........the greedy %$#$ have to get it done before then.

Just signed up for their extra bonus back stuff today that runs through end of year.

I have been real pleased with the customer service too. The few times that I have had to call on them. And once was with Paypal through Ebay......they were right there to help me and in NO TIME (one month cycle) I had my money back from paypal! (paypal wanted to CHARGE ME A FEE to give me a CHECK for a refund - they didn't want to run it back through my credit card! NOT!!)

We use our Discover card for almost everything and pay it off every month and we haven't received anything about an interest rate.

The only thing we've gotten in the mail was a vague sort of letter about something questionable about a merchant we'd bought from, and saying that they were sending new cards to us. If a company I ordered from is doing something questionable, I'd sure like to know who it was so I don't order from them again!

A month or so back they cut our credit limit to just a few dollars above what we currently had on it. But the limit we had before was ridiculously high.

We have received their "general new in Feb. rules". It looked like junk mail I almost didn't open it. Lots of fine print.

I spoke too soon! Since posting, I opened my bill. There was a separate page containing:

APR/ Quick cash increasing to 11.9%
APR for cash advances increasing to 16.9%
    Penalty APR increasing to 29.9%
Late Payments: $39.99 if your balance is $250.00 or more

It also says you have a right to reject these changes which will cause your account to be closed.

A bank that I have a chekcing acct. with has done that to me! The $#@%! And THEN........when I went in with a deposit they had the AUDACITY to OFFER ME A CREDIT CARD!!! I let them have it with BOTH BARRELS!! Among my rant.....was the comment that if the right hand knew what the left hand was doing they would have already known that I got my card CANCELLED from non-use!

My interest rate was raised a few months ago, but I haven't carried a balance in a long time, so didn't take any notice as to what the new rate is.

20 years ago Discover raised our rate to something like 20% because I was a week late with a payment so we never use it unless it is a special offer... lately they have been calling and offering a temporary low interest rate so we will use the card... I say I want a permantent rate decrease every 6 to 8 months they have grated it. Still too high but as the others go up 16 % is sounding better LOL

Dh got the phone last time and turned down the special rate and they would not lower the permanent rate.. he should have taken it I tole him we don't have to use it. but in an emergency yo never know.

I just got off the phone with Discover and asked many questions and my concerns.

She said over and over that my interest rate would not go up because they checked all my stuff back in April and they would not jack it up for the hell of it. She kept telling me this over and over and that my rate would not go up like 30% like some have.

I said thank you and was really nice and asked if she could send everything she said to me on the phone on paper in the mail.(she put me on hold then) Somehow, she had no paperwork to send that. She told me that since they never sent me a change in the mail (like some people got and my credit history is great with them)not to worry..but couldn't send me a paper in the mail that confirms it. Fishy.

She said she would mark this on the putor and I got her name and said well...I can record this conversation. She said yes. It seemed she was not authorized to do this.

I plan on calling back because she pretty much swore to me that Discover wouldn't do this to me. (cuz I would have received it in the mail by now)

Just wondering why I can't get this in writing sent to me, just a phone conversation...hmmmm. I'm not done yet.
