    Default More budgeting questions

On the monthly budgeting worksheet I've been using there are numerous categories with various items under those categories (i.e., Automobile is divided into Gas, Insurance, Maintenance/Repairs, Payments, and then there are blank spaces for you to fill in other subdivisions). The worksheet has columns under "Planned Budget" for fixed expenses and periodic expenses, then under Actual Spending it has fixed expenses and periodic expenses.

My question is (and I'm asking because I think I've been doing it wrong and therefore have gotten very frustrated with the whole budgeting process) do I guess what some of those expenses might be (in the planned budget area) and put a number in there--under repairs, for example? Or do I not worry about those items and just leave the line blank?

Thanks so much for your help. Even after several months of trying this, I am SUCH a novice budget-maker!

    For planning, yes, you guess.

For actual, it's 0 until you have an actual expense.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"
