2010 The Year of New Beginnings
Okay I'm tired of feeling hopeless and depressed. The new year is just ahead and I am praying that its going to be better for us than 2009 was.
I'm going to use this thread to track my progress and keep myself focused as I try to straighten out our financial situation. I'm going to use the next week to get organized and get a new plan of attack.
A little background on our situation:
Right now we are trying to recover from dh losing his job and being out of work for quite a while. We used up every bit of money we had in savings to get dh started driving a truck again. BTW his insistence not mine, I hate being part of the trucking business. That's been part of our problem too. But he put in hundreds of applications while he was out of work and nothing panned out for us. So back to trucking we went.
We're finally making a bit of money again but so far its not more than our current bills and what it is taking to keep the truck on the road, gas is expensive. But its something at least. I've been looking for work but to no avail. We are in a pretty rural area and by the time I factor in childcare for our 2 year old and fuel to drive anywhere I would be making next to nothing. Also posing a problem is that the week before dh lost his job we found out I was pregnant.
Then to make matters worse I was diagnosed with Hyperemesis Gravidarum and have been so sick I can barely function until just recently so I missed out on the opportunity for seasonal work. I'm still sick fairly often but atleast I'm not in and out of the hospital still.
I'm applying for some part-time type jobs and putting the word out that I'm available for housecleaning, babysitting, etc. Hopefully something will come out of it. I'm also going to try selling some of my crafts online. I figure every little bit helps.
The first step is really going to be trying to make better payment arrangements with our creditors and get caught up current again. Then I'll work on trying to get debt paid down and get ahead.
If you actually read all of this, thanks for letting me get it all out of my head.

Good for you MR - setting goals and making a plan for attack. Shall be following along your journey - with your determination I know that you'll make progress. In all reality, 2009 is done, so shake it off your shoulders and charge ahead.
Sending prayers and aloha your way!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Can you do some mystery shopping? that way you can take your kid with you and work a schedule more to your liking, more or less

I've signed up for different websites that claim to do mystery shopping but there never seems to be anything in my area. I've been looking into things like alpine and 1800 flowers, etc but nothing yet. I'll keep trying though. I am also applying for a job with the 2010 census. You just never know.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I am actually looking forward to a new beginning.

Well not off to such a good start. DH was on the road (in Lousisiana) and ended up needed more money for fuel for this run than we had anticipated. So he's having to use money from this week's check to get home. Thankfully we got paid today so he only had to sit down there 1 extra day but that means he just used our rent money for fuel.

So rent is going to be a week late which will put everything else behind. Not a great way to start. Especially since this was the only run he'll have for the week.
Have I mentioned how much I hate the trucking industry?

Well happy freaking new year. Ugh. Things are just getting worse. Not only are we stressed about trying to pay for basic utilities and rent being late because of dh's last run but now the people that own our house just called with more lovely news.
They've decided to buy another house and land so they are going to need to sell the house we are renting. You have to be kidding me. Originally the plan was for us to buy this house but obviously that was before things went to heck. How in the world are we supposed to be able to move? We can't afford to do anything, let alone start over completely. I just give up.
We don't even have anyone we can live with for a while to get things straightened out. There is no space. I guess I could take the kiddo and go stay with my grandmother and dh could sleep on his mom's couch or something. Doesn't that just sound wonderful. When is it going to be enough? I don't know what it is we did wrong to deserve all of this but I'm truly sorry...

Do you have a long term lease with the owners? If you do, then while they can sell the house, they cannot make you move. You would be part of the deal.
If you don't have a lease, however, then your state laws vary but usually it puts you on a "month to month" agreement and that means 30 days notice and you're out.
Sorry.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.
Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

11% gross to retirement
10% takehome to tithe and offerings
emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
credit card debt 7500
mortgage free
freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
then live on the rest!
i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.
