Did you know (money saving)
Did you know ...If you saved $2.25 each day by putting your spare change in a jar, you'd have over $821 at the end of year.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

That's if you have spare change; mine is always used for groceries.

Hmmm,
That's enough to make you save." May we never let the things we can’t have or don’t have or shouldn’t have spoil our enjoyment of the things we do have and can have. There was some dude that was on Racheal Ray this morning.
I only caught a few seconds of it..but he was saying if one person could save just 15 bucks a week how many thousands in one year(with small interest from the bank) that would add up to be!

Just per day doesn't sound like much......but how many people could really have over 65 bucks a month to save?
There were many months that I certainly didn't have that.

only in the summer when hubby is working full time we could save our change.

Most people don't think about saving in this manner. I have always saved my change for various things. When the kids were growing up I'd save it so we could do things during the summer...ice cream & what not. Now, I just save it with no clue what I am going to use it for.
If you don't look at the total as being $65...it's not as hard as it seems. Many people spend money on things without realizing that if they took that money & saved it they'd have a chunk at the end of the year.
EX: It costs $1.05 for a 22 oz. hot beverage at our local pit stop. If a person stopped & bought 1 every day on their way to work and worked Mon-Fri they would spend $273.00 per year. If a person smokes 2 packs of cigarettes (Marlboro in MI) a day they could save $1253.50 just by cutting back to 1 pack.
There are always ways to save something...if you look for them...at least that's what I have always tried to instill in my kids."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

I used to try to stick $1 a day into a sealed shoe box. At the end of the year you should have $365. Enough to cover Christmas for many people. We also used it to cover high heating bills some months. Just another way of forcing yourself to save money.

i have two wine bottles that i save in...one is for vacations and the other is the 2010 x-mas fund... i put .25 for every dollar i spend into the bottles...(its tough..i know)....and sometimes any x-tra that i have...
i have no idea how much is in them now and will not until the time comes to use them....then the bottles will get broken and there's my prize....
they were both started in the beginning of december.....

I think the $15/week savings plan would not be useful to people on this board. We are all trying to save and cutting back in any way possible. Saving a couple pennies makes my day! lol
I think the saving $15/week is easier for the people not on such a strict budget. That is really just 3 coffees per week. Not a big change if you are already going daily.
There was an article in a woman's magazine this month (don't remember which one, sorry) It was how you could save $2000 this year by doing some small changes. Well, I read the entire article and guess what?! I do all of it and more! lol I do enjoy the review tho.

We tend to drink 1 2lt of diet pepsi in this house each day we only buy when a $1 but that would be $20 saved if we drank ice tea 20 days out of the month.
and if it is ready when dh gets home he will choose tea.
I am sure we have many other holes in our budget we would not really miss if we cut out.Meg

While I agree it may be hard on some of the people on this board it does look more attainable if you break it down into saving it daily, rather than weekly or monthly. Most people can find a way to cut $2.25 a day out of their spending/budget.
When we still had all of our kids at home we had $25 per week deducted automatically from dh's paycheck. We never saw it, therefore we didn't miss it. Learned to budget with the money he brought home. This is where the mantra "pay yourself first" comes from. It doesn't matter if it's $2.00 or $25.00 you have to pay yourself something first or down the road you won't have any savings or anything to fall back on.
I know way too many people who have always said, "I'll start saving when fill in the blank" or "I can't afford to save anything"...these same people are now in their 50's and don't have a dime saved. These are also the same people who wish they could do the things my dh & I do, but can't because they didn't plan ahead. If we hadn't had funds to fall back on we would have been sunk when my dh got hurt almost 10 years ago. As it stands we still have our investments and even though he's not working we can still look forward to a decent income once he reaches retirement age."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." I use the $1 bill savings plan. I've never saved less than $500 for a year, and as much as $1,000. I hate messing with collecting coins and having to convert them to cash. I deposit my dollars once a month.
Add to that the $20/month I budget for a hair cut - but I cut my own hair, - so to really save the amount, it also goes into the Christmas/Emergency savings account. That's another $240 saved each year.
When I accumulate five $1 bills in my grocery money, I trade them with a $5 bill from my "walking-around" money. I can go without spending money, but not grocery money, on such a tight budget.
