Default Problem with dr bill claim

As some of you know, I have struggled with DH about finances. After out 3rd was born I handed everything over to him. That was 2.5yrs ago. Last Aug DH was in such a mess that he agreed to once again work on the DR plan. We have BS1 done and I listed our debts from smallest to largest. While doing that I noticed a dr bill that was never filed on insurance. It was from July of 2008. I E-mailed the insurance company and they will accept it until June of 2010. We have been calling the dr office (they do their own billing) since Aug 09 and they still have not filed the claim. The insurance co. wants x-rays, codes and all kinds of things I don't have or know. We are quickly running out of time, what do I do? TIA

Is the doctor local? If they aren't doing their job, go to the office. Of course, be polite, but they aren't getting it done and you need to have this taken care of.

I would make sure they understood that if they want to get paid they should file this ASAP. It may help if you actually talk to your Doctor about it. He usually has the authority to get it done.

I'd be calling the billing dept of the dr office every day until they get it taken care of. Write them a certified letter so that you have it in writing that they received the letter. Make sure you let them know you only have a few more months until the Insurance company won't accept the claim any more. In my books, that is unacceptable of them!!!

    And add:

"If you fail to submit the claim for processing by the due date, we will consider the debt to have satisfied in full and that no further payment will be required."

    Can't hurt.
If you could kick in the pants the person responsible for your problems, you wouldn't be able to sit for a month.

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

If nothing has worked so far get the billing manager and the insurance on conference call it will speed things along. It is almost a dirty trick but I used to work in this field and for some reason it gets things going.

Send the letter to the attention of the billing manager.

Yep......what all the others had said.....send letters and call ---OFTEN!!

    Squeaky wheel gets the grease!!!

Like Greebo said - let them know that if they don't do a 'timely filing' you won't pay.........that usually gets their attention!

I had this happen once. They waited about 2 years or however long statutes were. Then decided to bill me. Luckily they were close. I went there and told them it wasn't my fault they didn't bill and I wasn't paying it. Mine was easy. They didn't persue it.

I'd do as beks says along with Greebo said. Only make a copy of the letter you sent so you have one also. Plus when you mail tell them you want the only where they have to sign for it AND you get a copy of the card that show WHO signed for it in case it ever comes to be questioned. It's another couple dollars but I've found that me also having a complete record has came in handy several times.,.
